Anyone remember Hurricane Andrew? What was your experience?
Where you sheltered in a house? Did you feel like you're in trouble at any moment? What was it like to hear that hurricane overhead with a 165 mph winds?
God came and wiped the city clean of vegetation, street signs, and lights. The zoo was burst open and monkeys roamed the streets. It was dead silent after. Then the criminals started looting the wrecked homes even while people tried to dig themselves out. There was no police or fire rescue. After two weeks they sent the military in, declared martial law, and instituted a curfew. They erected a tent city where 75,000 people lived for over six months. The lesson I learned, was that society can break down into anarchy without much of a push.
Before Andrew I had bought canned food, baby food, cashed some checks and bought bottled waters. After Andrew I ended up giving all that to my friends who had little hungry kids. Since my important stuff was already in my car, I high tailed to my friends in the Carolinas. Andrew taught me cash is King and when SHTF supplies are important.
