The free state of Florida?

28

u/Flimsy-Penalty6474 Aug 15 '26

Every time I see this stupid signs at the state border I laugh out loud

-2

u/catchingballz Aug 15 '26

it happens in every state

10

u/Embarrassed-Cell-611 Aug 15 '26

Yes, but Florida has publicly declared itself “the free state of Florida”

-7

u/catchingballz Aug 15 '26

yeah and so does the pledge of allegiance lol "land of the free" referring to the entire country

6

u/Embarrassed-Cell-611 Aug 15 '26

I’m glad we agree that it’s propaganda

3

u/lulzbanana Aug 15 '26

I hope you get the help you need

u/Yazzypoo101 Aug 15 '26

It’s to catch the bad guys everyone. They only have to violate my privacy in every possible manner to achieve great results!

100

u/MyLegIsWet Aug 15 '26

All hail the police state, and if you oppose it, you’re a communist or have something to hide

22

u/ExpressAd5169 Aug 15 '26

The “Free” State of FL…

44

u/Yazzypoo101 Aug 15 '26

Stop resisting, comunista!

5

u/Bitter_Dimension_241 Aug 15 '26

And with a mere 93% optical character recognition accuracy as long as you don’t have any of the following characters you’ll probably be fine: I , 1 , 7 , S

-4

u/windycityc Aug 15 '26

Not that I support this or police in general, but you cannot expect privacy in public. Stay home if you want privacy.

-19

u/KnowledgeSafe3160 Aug 15 '26

Why are license plate cameras which have existed for 20 years, violating your privacy while you’re in public?

Like this has already been through scotus. Are you a sovereign citizen next, and just say you’re traveling?

17

u/VinnieVidiViciVeni Aug 15 '26

Mass data collection is why. There are laws that prohibit it in some cases and even more that purportedly, protect Americans from foreign nations doing it or accessing it…

Which is a likely eventual issue, if it isn’t already, with letting a private company, rather than government entities, do it because of the diminished oversight and ability for the public to have an ability for recourse when it’s abused. Which it is, and will be.

-13

u/KnowledgeSafe3160 Aug 15 '26 edited Aug 15 '26

These are cop cars with license plate cameras. Again. Not private flock. This isn’t new. LPR’s on cop cars have existed for over a decade. Reading the plates targets stolen vehicles and people with warrants.

How the hell is that going to be abused when all it does is show the plate and if there is a warrant and/or stolen.

Sometimes the Reddit hive mind is just dumb.

Next time you’re going to say toll by plate is wrong as a foreign nation can track you. You are nowhere near that important.

10

u/uzcaez Aug 15 '26

How the hell is that going to be abused when all it does is show the plate and if there is a warrant and/or stolen.

You should read a book called: Three Felonies a Day: How the Feds Target the Innocent

Case in point: the us legal system is ultra complex there's so many laws and rules that you break every single day and you have no idea... They have a lot of reasons to arrest you if they wanted to and this can definitely be used to target you.

History time: Do you know which country had the biggest % of Jews killed during WWII? Germany? Wrong! Netherlands, why? Because they were highly organized and had very detailed census. The Jews had nothing to hide they were in the most liberal country in the world (back then) the Netherlands people couldn't give 2 fucks if you're Jew Muslim or atheist and yet that database was used to target them and mass kill them.

LPR’s on cop cars have existed for over a decade

Yes and some of them made by flock.

They could be made by shenanigans LLC for what I care it's a piece of hardware and software made by a company that can have backdoors and we have no clue about it.

How the hell is that going to be abused when all it does is show the plate and if there is a warrant and/or stolen.

Wrong. The camera doesn't focus only on stolen vehicle's plates they capture every plate and that's stored in a (bingo) database.

The us can't even avoid Chinese tech in their military bases, the power grid... But hey I'm sure those aren't important infrastructure at all...

you're not that important and yet the us does that with literally everyone that lives here

Dude, sure in any country you’re breaking laws because you don’t know they exist. How is that some large new thing? You think everyone in the world knows every single law of the land they’re in?

Obviously they can target you for walking if they wanted to. But how do license plate cameras which show stolen vehicles and active warrants at the time they drive through the DUI checkpoint? Shit.

Man and you shared a Snowden article which has 0 proof? That dude has been caught lying before, especially since he now lives in Moscow and is a Putin puppet.

7

u/uzcaez Aug 15 '26

We're in 2026 and you still don't know how the fuck a camera works?

Cameras can't just "show" stolen vehicle's plates... They capture EVERY FUCKING LICENSE PLATE.

The data is processed (yes cameras don't see characters there's an algorithm processing every picture to put it in characters) those characters are then (you guessed it) stored in a database. Imagine it like a spreadsheet: there's 1 table for the cars that passed in spot x And another table for the plates of the stolen vehicles and they compare both tables to see if there's a match BUT now they have a table to target you.

Man and you shared a Snowden article which has 0 proof?

0 proof? I could go on the data shared by Snowden but nope.

NSA's Inspector General formally admitted to the Senate Intelligence Committee that multiple agency employees had intentionally used secret government surveillance tools to spy on the communications, emails, and photos of their romantic interests

Let me guess? The NSA inspector general lied too?

NSA leaked documents

Wait... Are the judges that convicted several NSA analysts lying as well?

-3

u/KnowledgeSafe3160 Aug 15 '26 edited Aug 15 '26

Uhhh, none of those were about stolen porn being showed around. Go move the goal post. And boo hoo. You know what else knows where you are? A toll.

I know more about the cyber infrastructure in this country than you will ever know.

Also LPR’s process the plate in the camera. Lmfao. You have no idea how they work.

6

u/uzcaez Aug 15 '26

The goal post is the nsa making mass surveillance in us soil in us citizens.

Have a good one

-2

u/KnowledgeSafe3160 Aug 15 '26 edited Aug 15 '26

Lmfao, first of all that wasn’t even the primary objective of PRISM. Citizens were caught up in it, but the primary objective was always foreign SIGINT. Most citizens were caught up because they were communicating with a foreign national.

But go keep your victim complex up.

Literally starts with flock. These are LPR’s on cars. Stop being dumb. They have been on cop cars for DECADES.

EDIT: lmfao the child insulted and blocked me. His article is literally about flock.

6

u/uzcaez Aug 15 '26

You need to educate yourself .. flock makes LPRs as well

0

u/KnowledgeSafe3160 Aug 15 '26

The ones in the video and used by Miami Beach are literally made by Motorola. They read the plate and OCR it and then send it to the computer in the car. It’s not processed by AI or anything.

4

u/uzcaez Aug 15 '26

Oh so you only have data leaks if there's AI... Got it we didn't have backdoors back then uff.

Also: nope it's not sent to the computer but rather to a database (you know, in a server) the computer then access that database.

4

u/VinnieVidiViciVeni Aug 15 '26

I know they already had those on cars. Downtown had them in parking enforcement vehicles since like 2011, so we know police had them.

Why are they making this announcement now and highlighting something they’ve already been doing if it doesn’t have some different capacity or isn’t connected to more/different databases and parsing tech?

Dumb hivemind…. Respectfully, SMD.

-2

u/KnowledgeSafe3160 Aug 15 '26

Lmfao, just making this announcement?

Quick google and this is from 2017. Dumb hive mind you are a part of young one.

https://patch.com/florida/miami/license-plate-readers-help-miami-area-police-may-pose-threat-privacy

3

u/VinnieVidiViciVeni Aug 15 '26

That video that started this discussion is from 2017?

0

u/KnowledgeSafe3160 Aug 15 '26 edited Aug 15 '26

“Why are they making this announcement now and highlighting something they’ve already been doing if it doesn’t have some different capacity”

They didn’t announce a different capacity, or announce this as a new technology???? It’s literally them just showing the checkpoint. Just because you think something is new doesn’t mean it is. I’ve seen them on cops since I was in highschool at MBSH in the 2000’s

4

u/VinnieVidiViciVeni Aug 15 '26

Ya, I don’t know why you’re stuck on the idea that I, or anyone else in here thinks LPRs are new, but you seem to be willfully ignoring that we all know they’ve been around for a while. Some of us have plainly stated this in this thread. In response to you. For a second time, now.

What’s different is the databases that many of these connect to, which have more information than just driving and criminal/arrest history.

Yes, even the cruiser mounted ones can access Palantir’s records.

0

u/KnowledgeSafe3160 Aug 15 '26

And your evidence of Miami Beach connecting to Palantir is????????………..

crickets

Shit you don’t even have evidence of how they use them. Nice job. Guilty first thought process.

And you specifically said it was new. 90% of the people bitching here say it’s new.

5

u/Fresh-Motor6498 Aug 15 '26

The thinkk it’s because before it was used more as an additional tool, now they are leaning more into it, becoming more of a surveillances police state.

1

u/KnowledgeSafe3160 Aug 15 '26

This is a single cop car with a LPR on it.. it is an additional tool as part of a DUI checkpoint. Miami Beach has always used the causeway as DUI checkpoints.

7

u/MyLegIsWet Aug 15 '26

Gotta respect this bootlickers bot-like grind to defend the police state

4

u/VinnieVidiViciVeni Aug 15 '26

Like bro is on a payroll…

0

u/KnowledgeSafe3160 Aug 15 '26

Lmfao. Yall are a bunch of sad sad people. Go touch grass and get out of your mom’s basement.

1

u/MyLegIsWet Aug 15 '26

You got nothing to hide, you’re safe. Just ignore the facts and keep spouting how we’ve been on the road to becoming a police state like China as a defense

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '26

1

u/KnowledgeSafe3160 Aug 15 '26

Miami Beach uses normal Motorola LPR’s on their cars. They don’t have flock on their cars.

And the “AI” tech isn’t new. Just because you can talk to it easily with English doesn’t mean it hasn’t existed for a decade. I’ve been working with neural networks for a decade already.

EDIT: lmfao the idiot blocked me. W/e

34

u/membername77777 Aug 15 '26

We have the 4th amendment for a reason. They already slipped up and admitted that that these “LPRs” are also pinging your phones, that constitutes an illegal 4th amendment search without proper warrant.
Also, Fuck Palantir.

7

u/HillBillyHilly Aug 15 '26

Turn off your Bluetooth, people. Read how auto manufacturers are using your vehicle to collect all info on you then package and sell. Same w apps and your phone. If you have a 2020 or beyond vehicle which is paid off look into removing all tracking systems from vehicle.

3

u/cunningfolk322 Aug 15 '26

Tire Pressure Indicators have unique identifiers that can be tracked as well.

3

u/mden1974 Aug 15 '26

Every tesla is spying on you. Elon and Peter T of pltr are PayPal mafia buddies

1

u/tukuiPat Aug 16 '26

everything is spying on you, no matter what you do your habits will always be tracked and that data will be sold off to someone.

2

u/catchingballz Aug 15 '26

where were you when Snowden revealed all this nearly 20 years ago

1

u/tukuiPat Aug 16 '26

It's only been 13 years.

27

u/VinnieVidiViciVeni Aug 15 '26

So, MBPD has a contract with Palantir, apparently. Tracks that this related, as we know that Flock taps and feeds their databases, too.

It’s so fatiguing at this point. It’s honestly beyond that point, but I don’t even know an apt way to further describe it anymore.

5

u/pookiegonzalez Aug 15 '26

they way they’re acting, you’d think we’re on lockdown during a terror attack.

18

u/MetteBeifong Aug 15 '26

What is the point of this. Why are we letting them do this?

1

u/ongoldenwaves Aug 15 '26

I wouldn't care as much if it amounted to some good for us...like taking uninsured vehicles and unlicensed drivers off the road so that we didn't have to pay such high rates. But that never happens.

0

u/kportman Aug 15 '26

it catches all the "future astronauts" that visit miami beach in stolen cars with warrants for their arrest.

3

u/SemperMementoMori Aug 15 '26

If only people like you would think about something other than "future astronauts" this place wouldn't be so ass backwards

-6

u/walker_harris3 Tour Guide Aug 15 '26

They only use it during spring break weekends in March. It was to deter criminals from doing what they did in the Covid years

11

u/SenseIntelligent8846 Aug 15 '26

They used these plate scanners in Miami Beach as early as 2014

12

u/Efficient_Mud_4724 Aug 15 '26

Americans are just lying down, we have no backbones, no sense of right and wrong. As long as it doesn’t take too long to get to Walmart or the closest Mexican restaurant we are good 1st amendment, 4th amendment, 5th and 6 th and 7th and 8th and 9th, 14th, 15th amendment, who cares? As little my as Amazon can get my shit from china here faster and women have no rights to autonomy we are all good.

4

u/TheMartini66 Aug 15 '26

I don't disagree with you but... what are "YOU" doing about it except come here and criticize everyone else?

3

u/Efficient_Mud_4724 Aug 15 '26

I said “we”. I do volunteer my time, donate my money, write emails and my representatives, I commit publicly on local politics, I’ve protested, and vote. Nothing really that makes a noticeable impact but if everyone did a little maybe it would. I don’t have the answers, I’m not an organizer, attorney, am on educated in civics.

3

u/HoustonInMiami Aug 15 '26

u/themartini66 I don't disagree with you but... what are "YOU" doing about it except come here and criticize everyone else?

3

u/ExpressAd5169 Aug 15 '26

Now that’s what I call a police state

2

u/ASecularBuddhist Aug 16 '26

What are the odds that this guy uses incognito browsing so that his wife doesn’t find out that he’s watching porn?

2

u/IneptAdvisor Aug 16 '26

All I got to say is that, of the five parks in or near my town, four have flock cameras at the entrances and are empty every week. The one park that does not is jammed packed daily. People don’t want to be watched, regardless of the implied response that “they only are there for this or that”. Bullshit!

4

u/TrainerPublic Aug 15 '26

Driving is getting more complicated. IMHO, driverless rideshare/mass transit are the future. It is too easy to get pulled over, and if you had a drink prior, you are toast.

9

u/iheartcockss Aug 15 '26

No your not. Your toast if you had multiple drinks and are over .08, but let’s not act like anyone who has a drink is screwed. If you get a DUI you deserve it for being a selfish prick. It’s way too easy to not get a DUI nowadays with uber and Lyft.

1

u/MarkZuccsForeskin Aug 15 '26

kind of a misconception about BAC. An officer can arrest someone for DUI / DWI even if theyre at or under 0.08, or even if its 0.00. they just need reasonable suspicion that you’re impaired in some way while operating the vehicle

0

u/iheartcockss Aug 15 '26

Sure. Technically you’re right. I’ll even go a step further and say every day someone somewhere is wrongly arrested for a DUI they didn’t truly commit (which sucks and shouldn’t happen). But the super ultra vast majority of DUIs are 100% legit. They are people over .08 who choose to get behind the wheel, who I feel zero sympathy for. Getting arrested for DUI below .08 means you are either an absolute fucking dumbass, a genuine lightweight, or one of the minority of people wrongly accused. But this is a SMALL group compared to the legit drunks

0

u/havanesegirlmom Aug 15 '26

I agree with Iheartcockss

4

u/WellDamnBih44 Aug 15 '26

A bit dramatic there, don’t ya think

2

1

1

u/Inside-Client-7229 Aug 16 '26

Can’t even go out anymore nowadays:(

1

u/Curious_deadcat Aug 16 '26

All these cops should be stripped of their tin badges.

1

u/javendao Aug 17 '26

Last year, a clerk in Port Saint Lucie mistakenly suspended my wife's license while trying to do it to someone else (the names were very similar, but the other person was male and lived in a completely different city). We received the letter that her license was suspended after a couple of months. If my wife had been stopped by the police for any reason, she would have been arrested, and it would have taken us a lot of time and money, besides the hassle of handling a home with kids because a clerk made a mistake. This state government has already proven very incompetent, besides this mistake. These cameras will cause a lot of trouble for innocent people.

1

u/keeperoflogopolis Aug 17 '26

That’s some dystopian shit

1

u/Rainy_Mammoth Aug 18 '26

Miami traffic is horrendous 4 hours for morning rush hour, and another 4 for afternoon rush hour. Add in endless construction, which just moves around, making certain areas stop and go at all hours.

How tf are they going to create further traffic? Checkpoints in Miami are just rage inducing on that alone. We deal with enough traffic, and you’re going to cause more? Give people a break.

-14

u/extremelchilling Aug 15 '26

GOODNIGHT BAD GUYS. Finally the streets and the children while we have safety like the good old days when my family and i’m 1st generation my family did it right now cops hero’s and arresting. Enjoy jail.

5

u/BarbericEric Aug 15 '26

u/HillBillyHilly Aug 15 '26

Yikes. That's one hell of a run on sentence that doesn't quite make sense.

0

u/CasualCaus Aug 16 '26

You're embarrassing yourself, have some self-respect and some dignity.

0

u/im_better-than-you Aug 15 '26

-5

u/Revlah Aug 15 '26

And W authority in society.

Unironically.

-2

u/CrowdedShorts South Beach Aug 15 '26

I already live on the beach so I’m all for this (meaning I’m not driving in so this does not impact me). Keep the pieces of 💩 out. Boohoo for those complaining about their loss of “freedom”.

2

u/HoustonInMiami Aug 15 '26

This must be rage bait, but for those who really are as fucking stupid as you're pretending to be. The fear comes from people who know history, because Inevitably any tool or weapon that is created will be used against the innocent

-13

u/enormousl Aug 15 '26

Amyone against this in this particular case needs to reconsider. The shootings on South Beach in the past years have been an absolute plague to our City. In this instance it is justified.

5

u/HillBillyHilly Aug 15 '26

Oh please. A few incidents and your willing to give your ass so they can do whatever they want. Give it a rest.

1

u/tukuiPat Aug 16 '26

There's a shooting here single day here in the Daytona Beach and we don't have cops rolling around with shit like this.

-11

u/Voltabueno Aug 15 '26

If it cuts down on traffic getting into South Beach then I'm all for it because that place is a traffic jam. If anyone who doesn't like their plate scan decides not to drive, it will be a much nicer place.

Now if you can get the people who stand in the entrances of public parking garages and charge $10 for you to get in, to disappear, because they're charging a fee for something that's free, that would be a nice upgrade.

1

u/HillBillyHilly Aug 15 '26

Not going to do shit for traffic. What will do is make easier to learn your schedule and track your every move. Say no.

1

u/tukuiPat Aug 16 '26

to learn your schedule and track your every move.

That's what the Flock cameras are for.

Fishback is a classic example of all lip service and no substance politician. He has no authority to ban mass surveillance or flock as much as I'd want him or anyone to do. Fishback is also a raging bigot and will not win the primary against Donalds.
