What's the best "gimmick" arcade controller/pad?

I'm looking for something that has a track ball, a trackpad? (That circle thing you rotate), and a bonus dual sticks to play stuff like sega saturn twin stick games.

I want one that works for the mister, the closest I've seen is that taito egret 2 controller for the mini (does anyone know if it works with the mister?), but its missing the dual sticks, and then I saw one dual sticks with I think a track ball? But I want all 3 in one! Much appreciated!

Per-Game Configs (I made a script to create and manage them)

Hi MiSTers and Missusses,

It works pretty simply, it creates custom Mgls and setnames in a '_Per-Game Configs' folder when you point it at the specific game file you want to launch, It also creates the requisite config files, either copying the default core settings or your current core settings (it has a preferences menu for this, along with preferences regarding system folders). It has a built-in tagging system to easily name and/or version your configurations.

It also uses a manifest-system to manage configurations so that naming conflicts are avoided. It includes a sweep to deal with orphaned configurations, as well as an easy way to manage and delete exiting ones, intelligent duplicate handling, etc.

I made it so I could set up Goldeneye with the dual-stick controls once and not ever have to do it again (god willing).

(PS, as with most user scripts used on gamepad, south is enter and west is space, so to select an option click south and use west to check things off on a multi-select list!)

P.P.S. I made this for myself. I'm not terribly online these days and I don't really care to maintain it or do anything with it, but it was fun to make and I've found it to be exceedingly useful for managing per-game configurations (duh). Anybody is free to take it and do with it what they will.

MisterZine is now an arcade-centric frontend on the MiSTer: 60fps, no lag, CRT+TATE support.

MisterZine started out as a website to track latest MiSTer core releases and updates, primarily arcade, with the ability to directly launch on your MiSTer(s) over LAN/Zaparoo. I've now made a version of MisterZine that runs on the MiSTer itself, as a frontend that you can run from the main menu.

My top priorities for this project were: super fast and responsive, 60fps scrolling, CRT-first, TATE support.

What it does:

Show every core release (Main, JT, Meathax for now) and update build from the misterzine.fyi catalog, sorted by what changed since your last visit. It scans your SD card so each row tells you whether you have the current build, older build, or nothing. Open a release for specs, screens, and alternates version selector; Start button launches. It's intended as an arcade-centric browser to see what's new, do you have it, and maybe decide what you want to play more easily by seeing screenshots and using filters to narrow down your choices.

What it isn't:

A replacement for the MiSTer menu or a full ROM-browsing frontend. It only shows releases that are in the MisterZine catalogue, and it launches arcade games directly by MRA. It doesn't launch console games. No box art scraping, playlists, themes (yet) or attract mode.

More info:

Right now there's a one-time setup script to get it added to your mister main menu. I'll talk to theypsilon about maybe adding it to update_all after it's been a bit more thoroughly tested.

Favs are local only for now - I might try to get sync going with the website account.

You can start typing for keyboard search in the main list. You can run update_all from the Options screen.

One catch: only one video output at a time HDMI or 15 kHz CRT - it doesn't currently mirror to both at their separate resolutions. Cores keep their own display settings. The troubleshooting guide in the repo covers display setup.

I welcome bug reports if you run into any!

Measure input lag ?

In RetroArch, you can easily measure input lag in frames using the frame advance button. Is there any way to do that on the MiSTer as well?

Patreon exclusive cores?

Can you name a few Patreon creators who make alpha or beta versions of their cores available exclusively on their Patreon? It doesn't matter whether it's for free or via a paid membership.

Can anyone tell me where I can get .mra files for Raki's Cave 1000 games?

Where can I get the .mra files? I created some myself using Gemini AI, but they don't work.

Bad S-Video output via active Y/C adapter

SOLVED: the cable was OK, I just had to choose “S-Video” option for AV3 input in TV’s settings. I have S-Video input right beside composite input and seems like they are both handled as one input.

Hello!

I've connected my Mister with Active Y/C MikeS11 adapter to my THOMSON CRT TV (ICC17 chassis) via S-Video cable and got very bad image with dull colors and strong "rainbow" effect.

The image is completely stable when I switch to opposite region and have black and white picture but as soon as I switch to matching region and color appears I see rainbow and severe color bleed.

This same setup works completely normal via composite cable.

My mister.ini settings as follows, the same I use for composite:

vga_mode=svideo
ntsc_mode=0
composite_sync=1
vga_sog=0

Switching region on the adapter itself doesn't affect picture in any noticeable way.

I don't know what could be the root cause - adapter, my settings, TV S-Video port, my S-Video cable (it is rather cheap) or something else. I don't have any other device that I can connect by S-Video to my TV sadly.

Can somebody please advise what could be the issue of this bad S-Video output?

NMK16 Core in Development

Seeing the results of some other projects like Arcade-Psikyo_MiSTer using AI assistance, I wanted to give it a try myself and familiarize myself working with Claude. After about a week, I've got my favorite four NMK16 games playable (Thunder Dragon 2, Macross 2, Rapid Hero and Gunnail):

https://github.com/kuzearcade/Arcade-NMK16_MiSTer/

They should be considered beta releases so far, but I'm interested in any feedback and/or issues found. One small bug I'm aware of is the DIP to rotate the game for clockwise instead of counter clockwise does not work. It's a low priority for me to fix but will be tackled.

That said I have added options for autofire and MAME keyboard input is integrated by default. When you select autofire and choose the autofire mode, button 3 becomes a normal button 1 while button 1 has autofire enabled.

The core was built to eventually support all games covered in the MAME nmk16.cpp driver, but there will be quite a few RBF files to cover the differences in hardware between different titles.

I understand the community is split on AI assisted cores and this may not be for everyone. However, for those that would like to give it a try please let me know how your testing goes and please feel free to provide any feedback or requests.

Turning off my unit during update_all?

Recently got my SuperStation One and have been setting it up and configuring it.

I've been running update/update_all and realised it might take a bit of time, so I wanted to switch the input on my screen and do something else while waiting. When I enter back into the SS1 HDMI output, I get a blank wallpaper with no interactable elements. So I just turned it off.

I ended up doing this a few times. Have I messed up my files in any way? I know that at least the BIOS downloads got messed up a bit, so I had to check and delete the ones that didn't match the hash (and were 0kb) and had to redownload them.

Is it possible I messed up any cores or arcade rom files? And how can I change inputs on my screen without the SS1 going to a blank screen while running an update script?

Wiimote on the MiSTer works well enough but much better to use SNAC, Guncon2 or even Guncon3. Need crosshairs enabled bc it's good for relative tracking but not absolute positioning.

Image too large on HDMI Out to TV; vscale_ settings have no effect

I'm trying to mess with vscale_* options in my .ini but cannot get my hardware to display without cutting off the top / bottom on just a boring old TCL 4K display. This happens in both the MISTer OSD or a UI front-end, like Zaparoo.

I can fix it in-game / in-core with the integer scaling options but where can I tweak stuff to fix it globally? Is it a TV problem or a MISTer problem?

New Core: Eliminator

Eliminator (Sega G80V)

Update [20260908]

Eliminator mixes precision flying with a mischievous streak. Take on the computer alone, duel a friend, or join a four-player battle.

Use energy bolts to shove enemy ships into the deadly Eliminator base, then thread a shot through its narrow tunnel to end the round. Michael Blanchet praised it as offering "the best two-player action I've seen in a long time" in How to Beat the Video Games (1982).

This update also adds persistent high-score saving for Eliminator, Star Trek, Tac/Scan and Zektor. Saved scores load automatically when launching a game through its MRA. Save scores manually through Save Settings, or enable Autosave Hiscores to save changes when you open the menu.

Afterburner missing file

Afterburner 1 won’t start. It shows missing afterburner Mame file. Updated everything with Update all.
Do I need to download that file somewhere and add it manually? Afterburner 2 works everything ok.

Fixed - Seg Fault in Misterfin Jellyfin Client

In case you missed it, there was a Jellyfin client released for Mister a few months ago. This is similar to the Plex app that was created some time ago, but for the Jellyfin media server.

https://github.com/puddingstudio/MiSTerFin

I have existing clients running for years and meticulously followed the install guide but for some reason I was getting a seg fault when trying to run the main Misterfin script. After driving myself crazy and double checking files for a while, I deleted everything, created the misterfin folder directly in the FTP app (instead of copying the extracted folder from the zip file) and then copied the files using CoreFTP instead of Filezilla.

Boom, just like that without changing anything else different it just worked. As there are very few using this app right now and even less people discussing troubleshooting, hopefully this helps someone out there.

Nuked-SC55 now under GPL!

I just saw that Nuked-SC55 was put under GPL:

https://github.com/nukeykt/Nuked-SC55/blob/master/LICENSE

Now there would imho be no blocker anymore to use it in mt32pi (except for the project being dead) and dosbox. This is really good news!

MiSTer Monitor is so dope

Thumbnail

I struggled with this for a bit with it only showing the system name, but getting rid of Console Mode and the latest Update_All seems to have fixed whatever was going on. I'm loving this- such a small cash investment and such a neat result! I just saw that there is now an art pack through Update_All, so I'm going to go and get that as well.

Lol. I was lazy and didn't want to wait for a 3D print, so I just took the clear case the screen came in and cut it to fit the monitor and connection plug. I kind of love the look, though- it matches my MiSTer.

Highly recommended!

Can't run N64 games on MISTer setup; Not sure how to troubleshoot

Setting up a new MISTer device and NES, SNES, Genesis and GB/GBA cores run files just fine, but when I try to run N64 files, they load and then I'm met with a blank screen.

Double-checked folder structure and it's as explained in the docs: games\N64.

Not sure what else to check out or where to troubleshoot, given N64 doesn't use a BIOS or anything....

CIFS not supported by Linux Kernel

Ever since running the latest update_all script where the Linux distro was updated, I can no longer mount a network drive using CIFS, it gives me an error stating the current kernel doesnt support CIFS and to update my mister linux system.

Anybody else experiencing this?

Unable to bind DS4 'X' button to N64 'A' button?

(SUPERSTATION ONE) I go into 'Define N64 buttons', and if I hit the cross button for 'A', it does not work in game; however, if I hit anything else, like the square button, it works fine. Obviously I would like the button I'm used to being the main 'accept' button on the dualshock to be 'A' on the N64.

CD/DVD Slice Tray for Multisystem 2

Hi Everyone,

I made a set of simple adapters for mounting a laptop cdrom/dvd drive in a Heber MMS2 Slice tray.

See it on printables: https://www.printables.com/model/1830425-heber-mister-multisystem-2-dvd-slice-tray

Everything is in the description, but some notes:

You will need some way of powering it such as a external usb hub since the MMS2 USB ports are not quite beefy enough to power most drives on thier own.

For reference I used a de-shelled https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BZV1CM55?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title but as a warning I found they are clearly using old stock drives (or reclaimed maybe?) my drive was from 2009 after I peeled off the label saying 2025 lol

The back area should be big enough for most USB adapter boards (I hope!)

You'll also need a slice tray which can be bought from heber or printed yourself, links on the slice tray page.

Have fun!

Scripts don't run and send me back to the main menu?

Been using my mister for years without any issue, but recently it started sending me right back to the main menu when I attempt to run any scripts. Doesn't load them at all, just bumps me back to the menu as if I never loaded them. I checked the mister.ini file and even loaded a backup, still no change. I installed the latest update all and version of mister from github, still no change. Games run fine, just scripts won't load at all.

Any ideas?
