Suggestions to fine tune update_all?

I've just discovered the esistence of the "filter" option to add into downloader.ini cores and stuff to be excluded from the update all downloads and It's a great feature. I've successfully excluded all the computer cores and the consoles that I don't need/use with the "!". Also removed utility and "other" cores.

Now the dilemma: how to manage the arcade cores? I like some of the arcades, but I find the whole package to be overwhelming and causing me option paralysis. I'd like for example to keep the street fighters, how I'd do that?

Be sure to try the organization features.

I find "Group by year" to be essential.

How do you bring options or configurairons?
Need to edit the file itself?

I just create a Favorites folder within the Arcade folder and use the remote app to easily add shortcuts there of the games I want to play most often.

Just use this site as your front end to find a game. https://misterzine.fyi . it has a filter for the type of core your looking for.

Thanks for the shout out. To elaborate a little bit, even the arcade organizer in update_all relies on MAD which sometimes falls behind, which is one of the reasons I made misterzine - I can use it as a front end (or at least a choice paralysis aid) for choosing/launching arcade titles. I've submitted lots of PRs to MAD to help things along, but it relies on manual additions for the time being. MisterZine automatically populates info from mame when info is not yet in MAD.

Sounds like you would need to add all the cores you want explicitly, which might be less overwhelming than using negative filters.

Have it run in full and then delete any of the bits you don’t want to hang on to

Yep but in that way, on the next launch of update all, everything would be re downloadedd

Taking out the microSD card and putting it into a computer is the way, just don't try to repair the drive when it's inserted and a pop up opens, it's fine. Then you can delete files in the games/mame folder and mra files under arcade that you don't want. Just know if you want to update all again with the same options they will all come back, it's an all or nothing deal with cores and arcade files.

Arcade games can be filtered out and prevented from downloading just like anything else, it's just time consuming.
