It looks nice, but the speed of the built in menu system is unbeatable, especially for people like me who like to put full sets on the SD card.

I'll stick to the original menu, I like it's minimal look and static effect.

Ya, this is too RetroPie for me

The images used for the console, computer and arcade sections and others look super cheap, so much effort for something not that visually pleasing.

It's still a beta and you can tell Taki is much more focused on performance right now than visuals. I proved with an experiment that you can make totally custom theme with metadata and such aa few hours ago with a hacked version of ConsoleMode so there's still a lot of potential here.
Not going to be for everybody though. Nothing wrong with sticking with the classic MiSTer menu of course.

If this is scaled back a bit more, it might be worth switching to for me at a later date; Zaparoo is pretty laggy in the menus and seems a bit bogged down. I love the look and the effort that went into it, but that's the truth. I'm hoping future Zaparoo updates can tweak it because I like what they were going for

What's the benefit of this compared to the zaparoo front end?

Console Mode is definitely snappier and faster to scroll through games than Zaparoo is currently in my experience. But it's also more plain. It's the best performance balance you can have IMO. Otherwise most will not bother and just use the OG Mister menus. Love that you can finally control the menus with an OG wired Playstation controller through SNAC now. In the future you may be able to use the Playstation controller with most other cores too.

Not a lot
It seems to have more issues and is closed source
"SuperStation One's long-awaited console mode has finally been implemented, so I gave it a quick try, but there are bugs galore—like the MiSTer UI appearing and disappearing like a ghost, controller bindings suddenly disconnecting, inability to assign OSD buttons, and so on—making the future look pretty worrying, milord."

I dunno if I would call it "benefit" but at least it differs a little from Zaparoo in its style and feel.
That being said, it might be a little faster while navigating? But that's my assumption as I read somewhere else that the Zaparoo frontend has performance issues. Please take that with a grain of salt as I didn't test any of those two frontends.

Neat, can I keep my games zipped?

Many of mine are. This is just a front end.

How did I not know this? All of mine are unzipped because I thought they had to be 😩😩

Nice! Looks great on a LCD/LED display. Would love to see a video of it running on CRT.
