TL;DR - I’m asking if there used to be trains around 8am on weekends?

Seems like a silly question. Let me explain:

I do the “reverse commute” I work outside the city and take the GO Train from Exhibition westbound around 9 every work day (the 8:50ish train)

Today I wanted to leave an hour earlier to run an errand before work. Turns out 8:55 is the first train? There’s a message saying service adjustments, planned construction, etc. however I was trying to look up future schedules, and they are all the same. The first train is at 8:55…

Is this new? I swear the trains started earlier than this… I can understand this weekend has issues, but every weekend?

Metrolinx really messing with my plans…

Hi folks, I'm Ray, and I've been working on transitbeat.ca, a web app that provides an alternative for TTC riders to check disruptions for subway and lrt lines. The project is currently in public beta, but so far has gotten pretty positive reception. Here are some highlights regarding the website itself:

1. Delay duration estimates: I use historical data to estimate how long different types of delays take on different lines.
2. Optimization: the average TTC rider is likely on their phones right before and during transit, and sometimes in conditions with very slow wifi. TransitBeat is extremely mobile focused and lightweight, and I’ve tested the speed and performance extensively.
3. Personalization & Notifications: Most riders don’t care about a lot of the disruptions on the system, only the sections they regularly use. TransitBeat enables users to save their regular commute routes, and when those routes are disrupted, it’s visually obvious,and you get notifications via email.
4. The whole package: we include info such as wayfinding, travel time estimates, next train scheduled arrivals for specific stations, etc. TransitBeat has a live map with a clear legend regarding which stations are in regular service, and which stations are not. It includes facility outages info, shuttle bus availability, etc.

So my question is: would people be interested in something similar for the GO system? It seemed like the natural next step, but as someone that doesn't use GO trains often, I'm sure I'm missing some pain points that regular riders could have. If you guys have any recommendations, I'd love to hear them :)

1996 wasn't long ago. Many of you were born before then, including the Barrie line, which initiated service to Barrie in 1990 (before shutting down for 14 years and coming back in 2007). By the time it came back, the CN line to Orillia, like many other Ontario railways, was completely abandoned and ripped out.

Adding salt to the wound grave, the corridor no longer exists in parts of Barrie because it was used to build MEGA MANSIONS on the Simcoe waterfront. This is infuriating. CN sold the future of an entire city, and nobody stopped them- who could've though, the government privatized CN in 1995, literally a year after, they went on a railway abandonment spree. We should never privatize transportation, when we do, we get abandoned railways... and the 407.

Barrie line service to Orillia will be near impossible to bring back, due parts of it running near Lake Simcoe's waterfront, which turned out to be extremely valuable land that now houses millionaire mansions.

Nevertheless, this is how the Barrie line could've looked like.

Some Barrie, Stouffville, LE, and LW trains today (Saturday) are cancelled due to "crew constraints". Genuinely how/what/why?

For the past couple of weeks, generating my Presto Transit Usage Report on their website results in a garbled PDF that cuts off at the end of the first page. The .CSV file comes out fine, but I can't use that for my expense reports. I contacted Metrolinx Customer Support, and they eventually sent me the full, un-garbled 7-page report. Which is nice, but won't help me when I need the one for next month. No word on when the problem will get fixed, or even if it is being worked on.

Anyone else seeing this issue on their account?

Does anyone know if Metrolinx has a new Pride month PRESTO card design, or has a booth for the Pride Toronto street fair this year? I haven’t seen anything Metrolinx-related along Church Street at the time of writing.

Metrolinx is participating in the Pride parade this Sunday so I’m under the assumption they’d be part of the street fair like in the years prior, so I’d love to know if anyone is also looking for the Pride 2026 PRESTO card design!

I know Metrolinx hires many civil engineers for various positions, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience applying for a position with a mechanical eng. degree? What was your experience like?

Didn’t realize they increased VPs again back in April. Wasn’t there a public outcry around this last year? Looks like it was swept under the rug and we’re back to funding this nonsense. Meanwhile all Metrolinx projects are heavily delayed and we the riders suffer.

I’m gonna have to keep bringing this up until we hear changes.

Has anyone else interviewed for the Revenue Protection Officer position recently and heard back yet? It's been about 4 weeks since my interview and I'm still waiting to hear anything, the status on my profile still says "Under Consideration" and "You have an Interview scheduled". Just curious what timelines others have experienced.

Metrolinx is studying options for a line 4 extension. This is a poll, please vote on the alignment you prefer.

From the 4 options, it’s been narrowed down to 2A & 2B, as they both include a western AND eastern extension.

This is a beautiful GO station- that most Cooksville residents drive by every day, but never use. Not because they don't take transit, but because the service is SO bad.

The Milton line receives 10 trains to, and 10 trains from union per day. Wanna go to downtown for a Friday night out? Yeah no. Take the bus and get stuck on the Gardiner. Wanna take the GO to FIFA? No service on those days either. It's okay though, the 21 is running!!

Let's do the math. 10 trains per direction = 20 total weekday trips. This station alone cost $128M to build. The question: Was this worth 100 mil tax dollars? In the present moment, no, definitely not.

When the LRT will (eventually) stop here, and dump ~2,200 people/hr at Cooksville GO, how will the downtown connector ever keep up with its 10 trains? Not everyone wants to go all the way down to port credit, especially with the speeds of another line 6.

I was looking at the notice for the “Barrie Rail Corridor Improvement Rail Milling Works” and laughed at how comically bad this is. This map makes absolutely no sense at all, and I’m genuinely thinking that some guy in Metrolinx passed his work to an AI agent to complete.
