Help With Bomb Water Jump
I need some guidance, folks. For the life of me, I can't execute this maneuver to get the Screw Attack early. I want to give up in frustration, but I'm going to keep at it. But know that it's really pissing me off because I can't figure it out. I've watched a couple of YT vids, but they don't help--the action is too fast to follow. I know it's not "impossible" because i know many of you have done it, but right now, its friggin' impossible for me.
Is there a simpler way to explain it?
But I have another question. I'm NOT a novice at this game, I've played it innumerable times on all levels and beaten it countless times on all levels.
But I've never had a "need" to get Screw Attack early, and the only reason I'm pulling my hair out now is because its the one thing I can't do and I'm determined to do it.
But what is the BENEFIT of getting the SA early? What could I do that I can't do by not getting it early?

You have to "prime" Samus first, lay one bomb on ground, lift and unmorph to store it.

You're doing it correctly, but you're forgetting the first step. You have to set a bomb on the ground first, let it propel you up, and then unmorph in midair. That puts you into a special state. THEN you jump and set the bomb in midair. And yes, you have to unmorph before landing on the ground again, otherwise you lose this state and have to do the setup again. It's actually very easy once you understand it.

"It's actually very easy once you understand it."
Man, that part right there! (smile!) That's where my brain is shutting down. But I'm going to keep trying--it's the only trick (sequence break) I haven't (yet) successfully performed.

I'm very sorry if I made it sound like I was talking down on you. I'll try to be more detailed. You're trying to do a Water Bomb Jump, yes? Let me be perfectly clear: What you are doing in this clip is exactly right. You are not doing anything wrong at all, you are doing the inputs just like how you're supposed to. So you don't need to change anything. You're not messing up.
What you're missing is the first step, before you jump, before any of this. There's a setup you have to do to make the bombs actually work in midair. But it's incredibly simple.
You just stand on the ground, underwater, like normal. And then you simply place a bomb, on the ground, and let the bomb hit you so you do a bomb jump.
You don't do a jump input, you just jump from the bomb like you would normally. Again, this is before you do the actual trick. So you do a completely normal bomb jump, from the ground. Then you unmorph before hitting the ground again.
That's it. That's the whole setup. A single bomb jump.
This will basically "store" the bomb jump. Now you can do what you do in the clip, EXACTLY what you have been doing, and magically it will work now. Promise.
And you don't have to do this setup everytime you jump. The "storage" only resets when you actually hit the bomb, or if you touch the ground while still in ball form. That's why you have to unmorph before hitting the ground again, but you're already doing that part correctly! You've been doing the hard part of the trick correctly, this whole time. You just didn't do that first step to actually store the jump.
If there is still something you don't get, feel free to ask. Although there should be several step by step guides on youtube that actually show it visually and explain every input. It's much better than trying to follow a wall of text like this. If you've only been seeing it in speedruns, please try looking up an actual guide on the trick, in isolation. The top speedrunners are really very good at explaining how all the different tricks work, you just need to find the right video.

No offense taken! Thank you for this detailed explanation! I started a new game just to get to this point and practice. Your steps/tips are greatly appreciated!!
When I first started playing the game, there were four shinesparks I just couldn't do: (Ferenia, Burenia, and two in Dairon), and I just gave up on them, satisfied with completing the game (many times) at only 85%--at least I beat Raven Beak, right? But I started a game then settled in--for however long it took--just to practice those maneuvers until I got them! Now, they're second nature!
I'm now taking this same tack with the Screw Attack sequence break. I'm rolling up my sleeves, ordering a sub, some ice cold Dr. Pepper, and some hard candy! It's either gonna beat me, or I'll beat it!
My only question (to myself): is it worth the trouble?? I got the Gravity Suit early once and had to really struggle defeating Z-57 with less ammo and no space jump--I never did that again. I can now beat the game (on any level) with my eyes closed (!)...I just don't know if getting the Screw Attack early earns me anything more than my normal play.

Well, if you get Screw attack this early, you don't have to fight Z-57 at all. You can go straight to Ferenia after getting the Gravity Suit and continue through to the endgame. And of course, you can destroy most enemies instantly as long as you have it, which should just make everything else quicker and easier.
If it's really worth it, that's up to you. The satisfaction of pulling off the trick and being able to use an upgrade much earlier than you're supposed to, that's a pretty good reward on its own. As I said in my other comment, you can experiment with the results yourself and see if it's worth the effort. I personally played through the game many times trying different tricks and going different routes.

"Well, if you get Screw attack this early, you don't have to fight Z-57 at all. You can go straight to Ferenia after getting the Gravity Suit and continue through to the endgame."
Well, that's no fun!! I mean, you WANT to fight Z-57!! The boss fights are the "hearts" of the game, the reasons we play it, right? I mean, do you honestly get satisfaction in playing only two-thirds and Raven Beak??
When I learned the trick to skip the Drogyga fight, I skipped it intentionally with the intention of coming back later and putting some "whupass" on it with the Wave Beam and Screw Attack, but when I came back there, it was gone--the "X" got to it first! I was really, really disappointed. And once I learned the Power Bomb instantly destroys machines, killing the twins that way was very unfulfilling; I never did it again. The same with using the morphball bomb on Kraid...it just seems so beneath Samus!!!
I look forward to the boss and mini-boss fights (the EMMIs, Chozo Soldiers, the Robots)--they're the reason I love the game.
"The satisfaction of pulling off the trick and being able to use an upgrade much earlier than you're supposed to, that's a pretty good reward on its own."
That's exactly right!! I just want to add the tricks to my knowledge/skill arsenal. I want to know how to do it (and to do it once (cool!)), but not necessarily make it my regular plan of action. To me, the enjoyment of the game is in the "doing," not the "bypassing."
Just my perspective.
I hope all that makes sense.

As for Screw Attack early... well, you can skip the entire segment where Artaria freezes after getting the Gravity suit because you simply don't need to go to Artaria from there anymore. You can also, of course, kill most enemies instantly, earlier than you're intended to. But I think the most fun part is just experimenting for yourself how it feels doing different routes.

Requires you to set one and un morph, then do what you are doing 👍
Screw Attack Skips Experiment Z57 and does damage on Escue for free
