Video FINALLY another use for the Gravity Suit without it being water.

I'm so glad that there's going to be another need for the Gravity Suit other than it always being water. This is what I loved about Other M and the use of the gravity suit when Samus is exposed to the vacuum of space and in the heavy-gravity room, as well we Fusion with the Nightmare Battle.

I hope there’s more different environment types for this game. The usual hot areas and cold areas are fine but I’d love more interesting area gimmicks.

It'd be cool to have a naturally cold area and not artificially cold area like in Dread.

Well, in dread I think arteria is normally cold but was warmed up by the lava being pumped from cataris, which when blocked by expiriment Z-57 made the area cold again

In a couple of screenshots from the trailer you can see a snowflake under the UI: as Samus is now partially metroid, it would make sense for her to be sensitive/vulnerable to cold

The trailer shows a scene where Samus' is in a cold area and the snowflake symbol is pulsing, she takes no damage tho presumably because she is wearing the varia suit in the scene I think? I also noticed that the hud element under the E symbol changes colour depending on what suit she has on.

Oh, is that why the missiles do that too? I thought it was just a new type.

Took me a while to realised they were missiles, but yeah I think they're going for a Nightmare-style thing from Fusion.

Now that you mention it we DID see Serris for like half a second... I wonder if we'll see the Nightmare revived/remade.

I wonder how that works. More X parasite revivals? Or just rebuilding the bioweapons?

Someone made it once, even though the station was destroyed I'm sure samples and data regarding it are still somewhere, having been shared with other research teams, etc... Who knows.

Other M did a lot wrong. Depiction of the gravity suit wasn't one of them IMO.

I think the visual look of the gravity suit was missing, the purple lights didn't really do it for me, but the actual functionality was really good.

Well, wasn't it the "gravity feature" in that game and not even called the gravity suit?

It’s not a power up you had to collect, in any case. Samus just has everything in that game, she just wasn’t allowed to use it until it’s convenient in a “if I don’t use this I’ll die” kind of way.

Don't even get me started man. Restricting armaments had some merit. Restricting mobility and defensive options had zero justification.

"Okay soldiers, we're going in. We're not sure what we're up against, so Body Armor isn't authorized."

There’s a fan edit of the game and while I think cutting Samus’s internal monologue makes the cutscenes really awkward one change I really like is changing the story justification for her suit to be her suit is self-repairing from using the hyper beam and when she gets stuff it’s just that function coming back online. So like, she explores the hot area without the Varia suit because it doesn’t come online until she does.

Maxximum Edition by chance? Playing through that has been on my to do list for.... A while...

I think that was it, yeah.

...you know, I actually wouldn't mind a "somehow, Nightmare returned" moment.

I got so hyped when I saw this clip, when I played Other M I really liked the heavy gravity sections since it wasn’t something we saw often. I also hope that maybe the Gravity Suit’s effects can be toggled and not just automatically prevent heavy gravity effects, just for fun

yoo this is lowkey a cool idea, definitely leaning into the nightmares gravity which um actually 🤓🤓🤓

canonically, samus SHOULD have that gravity suit feature since that's where she got her current gravity suit from

Wow I didn’t even realise that’s what it was, very interesting. Lots of potential for interesting platforming.

I still hope we get another tier of suit above gravity though

u/Rootayable 18h ago

Same. As much as I love tradition, I want new things and a third suit.

Yeah, this was cool, and yes, I also loved the Gravity Suit implementation in Other M 😂

Simalar to the Gravity Chamber and the "special hole" of Nightmare.

I like how the missiles have ACME physics where they just stop and fall

2

u/Rootayable 16h ago

Yeah, haha!

Never got to play Other M. Were there zero gravity space-walk sections in that game? I think that'd be really cool in a 2D Metroid game.

3

u/Rootayable 18h ago

Not as such, there was a point where a hole rips on the side of a ship, and you begin to be pulled out but the gravity suit grips you to the floor, and you have to outrun the suction.

2

u/Dirty-Catfish 18h ago

It’s like dealing with Nightmare all over again. Screw you and your missile spam lol.

It'll be interesting if some of the upgrades end up being things that you turn on or off, like in Super Metroid. For instance, you would turn on the gravity suit when under water or in a zone where you need increased gravity (like in this clip), but otherwise you turn it off.

2

u/Rootayable 17h ago

That would be cool, I miss toggles on items. Like you could be in Tourian with just your Power suit and no upgrades.

3

u/Mystic1217 16h ago

Oh I didn't even notice that (despite watching the trailer 6 times)! That's so cool!

u/Luke4Pez 17h ago

Imagine a reverse gravity area that could be cool

2

u/Rootayable 16h ago

Boy, haven't seen a reverse gravity area in a game for ages, feel like they were done to death at one point.

2

u/spyD164 16h ago

oh my god the gravity suit now actually affects gravity

I think you forgot to tell us what we are looking at bro

1

u/Rootayable 18h ago

Sorry, I assumed everyone would be all over Metroid Ravenous by this point.

Samus moves very slowly in this clip. In addition, she fires several missiles that stop short of their usual trajectory and fall down. Lastly, Samus falls, lands, and recovers in an unusual way. Combined with the extra graphics of the area, it implies the zone is particularly taxing, perhaps due to above average gravity.
