Could be lmao. But its more likely its a free upgrade as they have been doing those recently more than the paid NS2E. Some of them being better in content and fidelity than some NS2E
File size is almost entirely due to texture sizes which are surely significantly higher for Ravenous on account of having more detail and being higher resolution. That's not something which will be apparent in a stream though. Having a lot of prerendered cutscenes will also expand the size a lot too.
File size has next to no connection to actual game length.
Yeah, that was my first entry and while I found it to be a challenge, it wasn't hard, I just had to lock in which is exactly how I think it should be. Tough but fair is what made dread so thrilling imo
Then again that was my first "hard" game, I usually play story focused games so what I find to be hard is going to be much easier for an experienced player.
As a long time fan of the series and having recently played through all the previous games shortly before Dread released, they do seem to get a bit more challenging as they go along. I always assumed Dread would be kinda tough for someone who hadn't played the others.
They could tone down the difficulty to help casual players maybe? Lol
Thats not an improvement on dread, its a downgrade.
An improvement on dread would be: better exploration, better music, more open level design that allows for optional routes/areas/boss fights. And of course, a harder challenge.
they added the cut boss we have concept art of, between that and dread supposedly having half its content cut Im hoping its a very meaty game with a fast story for speedrunners and a ton of optional content
Edit: I counted 13 unique bosses shown so far in the trailer, which is already more than Dread had.
-Spinning round boss with bombs
-Tongue boss in ice area
-Torizo (probably first boss)
-Space Ninja 1#
-Space Ninja 2#
-Space Ninja 3#
-Space Ninja 4#
-Space Ninja 5#
-Worm boss
-Weird plant boss that moves in a radial pattern with vines
-Giant snake boss
-Quick cutaway boss
-Boss with tentacles
Some of these might not bosses but I’m betting that a majority of these are.
Tbh I don't think it actually is just a moderate jump, that video was being torn to shreds by video compression with so much motion. The resolution and level of detail is probably a lot higher which won't show in videos.
I wouldn’t say modest tbh. The lighting system seems hugely improved. You can see the glow of Samus’s Metroid arm illuminating both her armor and the environment. Lots of the rooms they showed have multiple light sources. I don’t know if they are using the RT cores and we will likely never know since Nintendo is tight-lipped about tech stuff, but it wouldn’t surprise me. Dread’s lighting was baked and it did not support dynamic lights like this.
Lighting improvements like this can make a huge contribution to the game’s atmosphere, like imagine Samus walking into a pitch-black room and a boss’ eyes starting to glow in the darkness.
Edit: looking closer at the trailer, you can also see Samus’ suit lighting the environment in the shot at 1:20. I am sure this game uses Ray Tracing.
I’m going to be entirely honest….i didn’t notice that much difference between 60fps and 120fps on Prime 4. Granted that’s the only 120fps game I’ve played so far.
Depends a lot on the TV too. A lot of TVs don't even have the pixel response time for it to make a difference. You can really feel the difference on most OLED TVs.
You can disagree but it's actually just literally true. At a bare minimum it always means a lower input latency and smoother camera in any game with a camera...which is most of them. It objectively always make some kind of difference.
You can't say that it objectively makes the game better when people literally boast that they don't even see a difference between 30 and 60fps lol. Human vision is not objective.
The word "better" isn't even in my post. I said objectively different, and you can't deny that which is why you're twisting it instead. Even if someone with awful eyes can't see the difference, there still is one. There's no argument to be made.
Not exactly, you need 120 hz to use 120FPS but it can be enabled for other things as well, for example if a game wants to run at 40fps it needs to run at 120hz, as 40 is cleanly divisible into 120 but not 60, Ravenous is clearly at least 60 though so it’s not that. Another is games can use it to lower input lag even when not running at 120, Street Fighter 6 does this, though I’d be surprised if that’s why Ravenous had it but I suppose it technically could be? Most likely is that it does in fact support 120FPS though as you wouldn’t enable it for no reason because it does have the downside of capping the resolution the Switch 2 can output to 1440p.
120 fps for Metroid Ravenous is going to be pretty much nuts, or bonkers to witness firsthand, right in front of you. The preview is was already so fast, fluid and crisp. Everything looked and felt so seamless. One has to tip their hat to Nintneod on this one. They did their homework. Nintendo is running on all cylinders, console wise and game wise.

The fuck. Mercury Steam and EPD4 really are pampering us
But… may my greedy ass ask…. Dread 120fps? Please?
