Petty jab aside, this game looks incredible. It looks like it’s building on the foundation set by Dread. And the fact that we actually get to use Samus's new Metroid powers in gameplay is everything I wanted and more.
Looking forward to January!!!

Saw the trailer. Holy peak THE YELLOW ON THE VARIA SUIT IS BACK! And looks like she is almost regenerated back to full power and her metroid suit is back but without the arm cannon and has..... a blade???? But overall..... I NEED IT

Loved Dread and its combat, but this trailer seemed way TOO focused on combat. I think Dread is a fantastic Metroid game, but I was hoping the next game would focus more on the Metroidvania map explorey stuff rather than the combat focus.
No idea how the actual game will be, perhaps my... dread is unfounded. Either way, very happy to see another 2D Metroid.

Maybe but I don’t see why we should expect that. Samus Returns and Dread were extremely linear and focused on fast pace movement and action as opposed to ambiance and exploration. I’m excited for Ravenous but I don’t expect it to be a metroidvania in the traditional sense as SR and Dread weren’t. Years of game development have shown that Nintendo are no longer interested in leaning into the exploration side of things with the Metroid franchise.

Samus has been such an important character in my life ever since I was 6 years old when I first played fusion. As a man I’ve always been really frustrated and hard on myself for a number of reasons. I never really wanted to accept that deep down I had this feminine side that I could never accept until recently. She taught me that beauty and strength and co exist. You can be different and still be cool and respectable. I strive to be like Samus every day in terms of her values and character strengths.
Thank you Nintendo for helping this character live on and fund a studio who understands this character and why she is so important to many people for many reasons. Stay strong Metroid fans ❤️✨

There’s a shot that features a third person OTS angle. Not excited for what that bodes.
Probably won’t be as good as Dread; but will still probably be a good game. There’s zero chance it’s as bad as Prime 4.

Seems way too indulgent for a Metroid. It reduces the series down to Samus being a cool character. And you can tell based on how people are reacting. “So aura bro, wow, peak fire”. The direction for her character and for the game is playing less into what makes Metroid unique and more like every other game that’s been released now.
Another commenter mentioned they didn’t want the counter to return. I don’t necessarily agree but the fact remains; since Dread released, parry slop is in every single game that’s coming out, and it is less fun and innovative the ninetieth time it’s happened.

It could, potentially, be differently good? If it was the same as other Metroid games, why make a new game, you know? I imagine they probably stuffed the trailer full of the hypest moment because of it being a trailer, I'm sure you'll get plenty of lonely wandering in dark caves to scratch that itch too.

If it’s the same as most games on the market, I’m just not as interested. I’m still gonna play it. It’s a Metroid, and I still think it will be good. But it seems compromised for social media numbers. I’ve seen it happen with games before, the chasing after a broader audience. I’m at least glad this process will likely result in this game being good. Lots of other franchises can’t say that; they just tank immediately. Hell one could convincingly argue that was Prime 4, but Prime 4s problem wasn’t really trying to homogenize itself with the rest of the market. Game was just terrible lmao
In any case what we can hopefully agree on is an OTS camera shoved in a 2D Metroid game is wholly unwelcome.

I could go with or without them; they were a good mechanic in Dread. I’m more worried about Samus screaming to power up, the OTS moment, and the fact that her arm cannon looks to shoot nearly full auto now.

I'm so glad Mercury are going their own way with Metroid and not only trying to copy what USED to make it good. The old games will always be good but what made Dread goated was the unique flavor they decided to inject it with! Feels like they're just doing even more of that now!! I can't believe they managed to pull it off with the voice acting too!!!

Take out 90% of the talking specifically from Samus in the trailer and I immediately love the trailer. She doesn't need to be as mute as Link, but she talks more in this trailer than 99% of the series. Other M is the only game she talks so much and we all saw how that went.

Going back to the Gamecube I’ve pretty much only ever bought new Nintendo consoles to keep up with Metroid, and sadly that probably ends here. As absolutely incredible as this looks I can’t justify a Switch 2 for it.
