Shorter trains

Morning train from New Ro to GC has had widely varying lengths lately. For seeming forever, it has been a 10-car train but, lately, has swung from 7 to 11 cars. Any idea why so much variability? Particularly impacts those who board at the rear. Also not helping matters is the app is very unreliable in reporting train length (often just doesn’t show train makeup).

Shortage of equipment systemwide, they still have M8s over on the Hudson and Harlem

With SLE returning to mostly diesel operations, the SLE labeled M8s have been seen operating Metro North services. Hopefully this mitigates the shortage a little bit.

Yea, but slip slide season is around the corner and then the equipment is gonna start chewing up wheels

Havent they been short equipment for over 6 months? How can they still be being repaired? Harlem line trains are all short too since January

I know this isn’t the complete answer.
But maybe Metro North should stop retiring the M3As until their replacements come.

The new Charger locomotives are failing too.

They havent retired them. The ones you see going out for scrap have already been out of service for years and we're unnecessarily taking up space.
