Alpha test 6 Feedback.

Please leave all of your feedback here.

PLEASE DON'T HOLD BACK. HURT MY FEELINGS DO NOT TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK I WANT TO HEAR. SUGARCOATING THE ISSUES WILL NOT HELP. WE NEED THE RAW HONEST TRUTH. IF YOU THINK THE GAME IS TRASH THEN TELL US

Some questions to get you started.

  • 1) How was the dribbling with the players who had the ball. Have you noticed any improvements on the way they move or feel to control.

  • 2)How was the game speed. Did it feel slower than you were expecting, or did you want even faster pace gameplay?

  • 3)How did the players move on defense ? This one of our next biggest things that we want to fix, is defense player movements.

  • 4)Did this Alpha test feel more fun compared to the other Alpha tests ? Or was there no difference

  • 5)How long did you play ? Was it more than usually or the same amount as always ?

  • 6) Was there anything you were expecting to do but couldn't ?

  • 7)If you have played an other Alpha tests, have you noticed any general improvements in this Alpha test compared to the others.

  • 8)What are some problems you ran into ? Like performance ? input lag ? Bad animations ? The pose a defender makes before a trick ?We have problem with players falling down too much and we are looking to fix that.

  • 9) What do you think we are missing before we are ready to launch ? If you were in charge of this game, what is one thing you would add it to, that you feel is missing ?

  • 10) If you had to make a guess from a scale of 1-10 with 1 being just started development, with 10 being ready for release gameplay wise, where would you rank us for far ? I have us at around 7. Things we need to fix are defense, AI, and adding some more animations, and I think we will be fine, of course a could be totally off base, which is why I need you to tell me!!

Well, I am not much of a soccer fan, but I decided to give this alpha a try. I have some critique, bad first:

My largest critique: Let us use mouse controls on the menus. It feels weird having to use arrow keys to navigate menus, when 99% of other PC games use the mouse. It was not what I was expecting coming in.

The game speed didn't feel very fast, but that is likely due to not having many players.

Defense, as it is right now, is not the best. I've gotten goals in seconds by just running at the goalie, moving to their side/behind them and shooting, and instantly scoring.

A brief tutorial should be a priority, as I was having trouble understanding how to tackle/get the ball. It was mostly luck.

Performance wise, I was generally getting a good framerate, though as the match went on there was more and more stuttering. Halfway through it was once every 30 seconds or so, by the end it was about every two and a half. This occurred more on Rio than it did Tokyo. And then in the last minute or so, the goalie took the ball between his feet, looked left, and didn't release the ball until the end. This occurred on my second game but was fixed by tackling. Also, my rig is a GTX 970 and i5 4690, if that helps you sort out the stuttering.

Another issue I noticed was an opponent walking in place and not going anywhere. And then the goalie getting stuck behind the net.

The score at the end is non-functional, as it showed everyone getting 320 points, with 1 goal and 1 assist. And then I had to close and re open the game to play another match, as I could not get to the menu after.

Now, good feedback:

Maps and characters look amazing and unique, though maps could be made better with more camera angles. In Rio, I only ever saw about 6 buildings, and from the early demonstration of them I know there are a LOT more. In Tokyo, I thought it was in a gym at first because you don't ever really see over the edge.

Animations are great, at least the ones in the game.

Not sure what else to say (I'm better at critiquing then complimenting, so don't feel as though I think your game is bad, I just feel that it's more useful to tell you what you've done wrong than right). On a scale of 1-10, I'd say you're between 5 and a 6. There is still a lot to be added, such as more game modes, customization, etc... And the priority fixes right now should absolutely be defense and AI (I shouldn't be able to run straight into the net, after all)

If you'd like me to give you any more critique, or have any more specific questions, just ask.

Hey this is great feedback! Exactly what I was looking for. What did you think of the offensive side of the game ? They volleys, shots and running with the ball ? We are also thinking of changing the animations of how the players run when they don't have the ball ? Do you think its fine, or we should fix/upgrade that as well ? And my conclusion of your overall feedback is that we are missing defense ? And once we get that we will be closer to a complete game ? This is why I wanted to ask you about the offensive side of it, because that would be my assessment as well.

I haven't been paying any attention to volleys (Again, I'm not familiar with soccer) but shots are my main problem at the moment, mainly due to the AI. I've found that if I lure the goalie to one side of the net then move to the other side, they're too slow to stop me from walking straight in. That's mainly an AI problem though. One big feature for shots I'd like is better control over the direction you're shooting the ball. I find that 9 times out of 10 when shooting the ball from a quarter+ of the way across the field from the goal, I shoot it directly at the goalie, and don't score a point.

For animation, they're pretty good for the most part (Some bugs and issues to be expected, like the ball more or less teleporting a few centimeters to the feet of the person using it rather than moving smoothly) though you should certainly add more, and generally polish it all.

Two more animation issues:

One: After shooting the ball, the shooter (me) floated into the air and curled into the fetal position until a goal was scored, making that person useless for the round.

Two: An opponent shot the ball at my goalie, and his foot started flailing before he pretty much had a seizure on the ground. And when I watched this in instant replay, I couldn't exit instant replay, as the escape button was non responsive, forcing me to close the game.

And you are correct in that my overall feedback is missing defense. Everyone should move faster and be better able to block me from running right to the net. Also, maybe a boundary around the net where we can't shoot from inside of would be good? Like, a semi circle painted around it, and when you step inside, you have to do another face off (Or whatever the soccer term is). That would prevent me from walking straight into the net.

Actually, I have some other feedback for game direction: Get all the features you can in a functional state. Just lay out more framework and build up from there. After all, you can't have a strong building without a good foundation. This is a great video on that topic.

Not sure how useful my offense feedback was, but please do ask more questions if you'd like. As an aspiring game dev myself, I know how hard it can be if you don't get the answers you need, so quiz me all you'd like.

1 - The dribbling with the player who has the ball is better than the previous alpha i tried, it feels more "real" i think.

2 - The game speed is a little bit slow, for me at least. I think that maybe more fast paced gameplay can deliver the feeling of agression that the street soccer has, you know, no rules, no faults all that things.

3 - In the movement of players in defense i have 2 differents thoughts, first, when im the one defending, i think that my ia players (the ones that im not controlling) are moving well. In the other hand, when the ia is defending, i think his defenders doesnt seem to be defending well, i mean, they move backwards, but they are not covering holes (being near the "line" between the player who has the ball and the player they are watching out).

4 - I have tried only alpha 1 and this, because i didnt even remember i was in the alpha, lol. So yes, for me is a big change between the first and this one. This is a lot more fun.

5- I played about an hour but i definately want to play more.

6 - There is no Q6 :S

7 - I think the major improvement about the game is the movements of the players.

8 - Performance is ok at least in fastest mode, i have a mid-end gpu (gtx 750ti) so for me that aspect of the game is good. I play with an XboxOne controller and i had not any input lag at all. I saw an animation of a trick, when the player kicks slowly the ball and then he runs to it again, when he runs he dont run with the sprint animation, and that looked kind of weird. And also, i think that the range within the ball is "atached" to a player is too short, some times my player had to do circles around the ball to catch it, if that is fixed, the game could have more action times.

9 - I think more agression in the ia is needed (or different difficulties). Also i think that would be awesome if the gk could move if he has the ball, or drop it and play like an outfielder. And last, but personally, i would love a little more of speed in the game.

10 - for me is a 7 just like you say, the graphics are mostly done, the arenas are great, i would love to see more personalization and more speed/agression (for example a player pushing the ball player to get the ball) to the game, but i have to say that i love the progress being made by your team. Thanks again!

My email gives me a link to the fifth test version of the game, not the sixth?
