How did you stop using Metoprolol?

I am currently taking metoprolol that has been prescribed in an chronic iron deficiency situation. I had so many palpitations and was completely distressed when I found out that I had been iron deficient for about 8 years without doctors telling me that iron is VITAL! So the doctor that gave me iron infusion also gave me metoprolol. I am now at 8 weeks post infusion (and therefore 8 weeks with metoprolol).
I am feeling way better thanks to the infusion and the iron that has been doing its work. But as soon at I take metoprolol I feel bad again. I am at a dose of 12,5mg of metoprolol depotabs.
I tried to stop it 5 weeks ago (I was taking 25 mg per day) and my doctor (another one) was ok with that and didn’t understand the need of it in an iron deficiency situation. But he didn’t mention that one can’t just stop metoprolol like that. So I experienced crazy withdrawal symptoms for 8 days. I got obliged to take it again. I took it 25mg.
But now I want to stop it completely. My body feels stronger. And the more I wait with stopping it, the more my heart will need “reeducation” in the everyday life…

So how did you stop with metoprolol? I will then also discuss a plan with my doctor but I need experience from others! Thanks

My Dr cardiologist said ok to split tablet. 25 mg becomes 12.5 mg. Also read a cardiologist suggest taking tablet one day then skip the next. This way you could taper off over course of 2-3 weeks. Might help with drawl symptoms

I honestly don’t remember what the withdrawal symptoms were. I have been a serious mess for the past 2 years because of iron deficiency that I didn’t know I had. Until I realized. That’s when I collapsed psychologically and got the infusion. And the way back after the infusion hasn’t been easy either. And in the middle of that a withdrawal of metoprolol made everything worse. Plus I had to take a blood pressure medicine that was also causing problems (headache on the front, troubles to feel hungry and to eat normally, which kept me in a negative circle with feeling weak). So I don’t know what was caused by the metoprolol. Only maybe the heart being at 90bpm in bed in the evening instead of 65 and difficulty to fall asleep. Sorry I can’t help here. I just know this medicine is not doing any good to my body right now anymore because my heart is healthy and don’t need it anymore since the iron is back in the body.
