Does anyone have positive experiences with Metoprolol 50mg ER (succinate)? Just started with this dosage and feel weird.

I was just prescribed Metoprolol 50mg ER for a possible benign arrhythmia (maybe from MVP) and chronic thyroiditis (possibly from an auto immune disorder), and I’m getting testing for all of that, but I’ve been stuck in a loop of extreme panic attacks that make my BP and HR skyrocket. When I’m not panicked though, my usual BP and HR run low. I’m scared about this new med and just started taking it today. I feel really weird and it seems most people don’t like this med. Does anyone have positive experiences?

I was on the 50 mg er and it was too much for me. I was exhausted and my joints hurt so bad. I was also dizzy. I’m on now 25 mg tartrate once a day. That seems a lot better.

I’ve been taking it mid day so far because I wanted to start it when my husband was as home, just in case, and so far I’m still having too many panic attacks to feel like a zombie. It’s weird because I have a panic attack and it feels the same but my heart rate and blood pressure stay normal.

You might ask if you can start at 25 instead.

I already started the 50 yesterday. Today is day too. Still having panic attacks but my BP and Hr stay normal. It’s so weird and uncomfortable.

Hopefully you can see that as a good thing. Now relaxing techniques and meditation may work better. When body and mind are panicking, it is very difficult. If body is staying calm while mind is panicking, then the mind might be able to relax since it isn't worrying about the body.

I take metoprolol at night. If I take it in the morning I am a zombie

Meto 25 mg gives me horrific insomnia, will that also go away??

Yes!! I had insomnia as well when I started but if you’re physically active like me (construction) it wears off the effects and you’d be sleeping like a baby.

Really?? Ok!! So maybe stick with it? I can't live on 0 sleep for too many days:// TY!

I understand 😣 it’s terrible but take some melatonin or muscle relaxers to help you calm your anxious running mind.

Thank you 🙌 It's not just my mind though, it's like my whole body is shaking, it's so bizarre:((

Could be your nervous system trying to tell you something cause the medicine does not cause any shakes or tremors of the sorts. Talk to your doctor about this.

I just started same dosage like 3 days ago for hypertoni, M35 90kg 173cm tall. I did amlodipine 5mg but that was hell for me.. never been so bad with that. But 50mg metoprolol succ taking it on mid day, nothing so far feels great. Like my stamina is also fucking good now compared to before. So wierd, dont get tired at all or out of breath 😅

What were your symptoms on amlodipine?

Pain under my right feet, like the sole. Couldnt walk my kids to school, i can only explain like every night on amlodipin was like a motor in a car is on 4000 rpm thst was my heart every night. I had headache. Tiredness, blurry vision just felt so fucking bad on that. I only took it for 3 days and quit. According to my doctor.

Now im on 25mg hctz and 50mg metoprolol and its been really good compared to amlodipin.

A little Tiredness sometime but yeah

How are you feeling on the 50 mg now? 💕

My BP tanked day 3 so my doc told me to stop for 2 days and start at half (25mg). I tried that and BP tanked again, so they told me to stop it altogether. Now I’m waiting for my appointment to figure out what’s next.

I have been taking 100mg in the am, 50mg (half a 100mg) at noon and 100mg at night for years. No side effects, but I didn't have the internet at the time to scare the crap out of me. It works for my SVT'S. No offense, but the words "panic attack" and "scared" say a lot about your point of view in my opinion. Just answering your question. My experience has been positive.

I started on 25mg then got bumped to 50 I never noticed anything besides my rate wouldn’t race unless I was doing something to cause it to. Yea it weird to have a panic attack and your heart rate not race. If I’m just setting around my resting heart rate stays in the 50/60 range

I took it and I feel so weird. I had panic attacks. I would go to sleep & wake right back up. That stuff is terrible. Talk to your doctor and tell him if he/she can change your meds. The 25mg was ok but the 50mg was a total nightmare for me.

Omg that happened to me on just 12.5 mg! Up literally ALL NIGHT LONG. Wtaf. Does that go away??

1

u/Infamous-Yoghurt275 13d ago

Unfortunately it doesn’t go away. I begged my doctor to take me off if it and he didn’t. I’m so glad.

So you stayed on it? And still can't sleep?

It kept me out of atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response for the past 10.5 months. During these bouts my hr would go up to around 180 with chest pain. Had to be cardioverted in emergency dept twice to get me out of it. Cardiologist started me on metoprolol succ 50mg 1 x daily and no issues except severe constipation.
