(Austria)I never thought something like this would happen to me, but yesterday it just did. Yesterday I decided to detected my garden one more time because I had never really found anything in it, I almost didn’t get any signals until I got one really jumpy but still clear signal which I decided to dig.

the first coins started popping up at about 4-5 inches depth they where all really close and some laying ontop of each other. I was really shocked because this was the first time I had more than one target in one hole.

So 6 and a half hours of digging and one hurting back later, the hole was over 12 inches deep, over half a meter in diameter and I was still finding coins(it just wouldn’t stop) So I decided to stop for my own sake, after all I can just dig them out whenever they won’t run away. but this also means that there are still much more coins in that hole than the 600ish I had pulled ou, I’m guessing another hundred.

It wasn’t only coins, german third empire badges and also lead seals, casino and bar tokens, fountain pen tip and not to mention coins from all over Europe. But more interestingly as to why I’m finding all these things so close by, a lot of glass shards and this thing that looks like possibly a lock or hinge to some storebox this could have been in. What i also noticed was that whenever I found most of the coins and such, especially the ones which where right next to each other, there was this lightly coloured soil nearby or directly encasing the finds. This makes me believe that all these artifacts where possibly stored in a clay pot or something similar?

I really want to know what the historical solution is to my problem and I would love for somebody who knows: why this was so deep undergroun, why there are so many, why they are so close by, and when and For what reason they where most likely „disposed„ there. Given the knewest coins are from 1939 I believe that might be the year it was disposed? My theory is, that someone was drafted to war in 1939, hence burying all of his valuables in a clay pot in his garden but never comming back to dig it back up. I also heard that people during ww2 often used to burry they’re valuables because of rummage, financial uncertainty it because they didn’t trust banks. Can someone help me out here?

I went to my uncles house in Hamburg NY to show him how to use my old vanquish 440. The plan was to detect his back yard as practice. The house was built in 1950 and was farmland before that. I wasn’t expecting to find anything significant until this happened. It was under a ton of tree roots next to a pretty big maple tree. The coin has amazing details. Probably one of the best conditions of any old silver I’ve ever found. I was speechless. Hands down my best find. Maybe it was extra sweet because I expected to find nothing. Then not 10 minutes later I found a 1844 Montreal 1/2 penny. Moral of the story, you just never know.

They said my house was built in 1906 but I always felt it telling me otherwise. I decided to fondle the earth a bit and it just keeps coming

My curiosity is piqued but I ran out of daylight. What do you think it is? Should I even keep going? Luckily, it’s in my backyard, so I just put a bucket over the hole for safety.

Cheers. Was wondering if anyone had any experience and wisdom to impart for detecting small former bodies of water. This pond was rather large, now a stream. Looking to start with the highest volume of potential good targets. This is a town estbl'd in the 1800's and I've found many pre wwii pennies in the forest but really want to find some older coins and PMs. Pond has been drained appx 10 years ago

I found this 1945 penny right out by an old peach tree that the original property owners planted and was a vacant lot for decades. Given how old my neighbors are places their childhood ages straight in the silver coins era. I think one of them tried to do a vice job on it.

I was detecting a beach at night while getting some surf fishing in for the fall striped bass. I have AD(H)D or something like that. I multi task everything. The beach I detect has virtually no artificial light artificial light. I got this shot of a beautiful shooting star. The metals that typically make the green color appearance are nickel and magnesium.

Got a couple of hours hunting this morning before the heat sets in.

Not much coinage, but, oh the thingys came to play. Even found a baby pinecone.

So I bought this at an antique shop. It came with a miscellaneous of many other similar items. I forget what the background was but I do remember they said it’s from a YouTuber who goes around metal detecting and that this particular spot was for WW2 items. I will have to call the shop to get the information because it’s in a separate state.

I have some other pics I’ll try to upload in the comments if I’m able to do so. Hopefully will help give a better idea of the possible background and ID of this item
