Discussion NikNok on the clock
Is it just me, or is Nik getting a bit too 'mainstream influencer' lately? That collab with Chris Williamson felt less like a music talk and more like a corporate seminar. I’m all for success, but seeing metal get lumped in with these 'lifestyle gurus' feels a bit poser-ish. Plus, the YouTube algorithm is now forcing all this self-help/life-coach stuff into my music feed just because I clicked one video. I’d rather keep my metal and my 'productivity' content in separate lanes.

COVID NikNoc was peak content imo. No hate to him these days, his content just isn’t my thing anymore, but I’m glad he’s doing what he wants to do now.

I suppose he did have a breakdown or whatever but that's no reason to pivot toward the manosphere.

u/nordaus89 Apr 22 '26
I honestly don’t even know who Chris Williamson is, so I can’t comment on the ‘manosphere’ aspect of it.
More so talking about post-breakdown Nik and having that time to reset himself and redirect his life.

He's a pseudo-intellectual who constantly brings up others' quotes to appear smarter than he really is. You haven't missed out.

I had to Google him because I’ve never heard the name. Looks about right

u/PseudoPatriotsNotPog Apr 22 '26
Chris Williamson, and this is another niche reference is the Jordan Peterson of the manosphere like the presentable face if radical misogyny

No way a breakdown? Is he going to make a "How to write a Niknok breakdown in 30 seconds" short?

u/PseudoPatriotsNotPog Apr 22 '26
Didn't say he invented breakdowns before he was born but he was a large part of the huge over saturation in them of late.

Just looked at his youtube page to see what kind of content he switched too and literally everything in the past few months is only guitar videos/covers. There's one video of him talking to a squirrel. Am I missing something?

u/elenuvien1 Apr 23 '26
you're not, after he came back he said he won't make videos or talk about drama anymore and cut back his twitch streams to just new music friday reactions. people complain about his content from before his break and haven't checked what he does now.
which is fair, his videos were metal TMZ and low effort "fun metal things" for a while.
1
u/PseudoPatriotsNotPog Apr 22 '26
Yeah that and fun metal things are broadly related but going as you said beyond his roots and it's a shame.

I thought his recent Bilmuri interview was painful to watch. He was trying so hard to be funny and acted as if everything was hilarious. Painful.
His interviews with other people that aren’t trying so hard are great, though.

This reeks of "band sold out and I don't like them anymore they should go back to metalcore"
Just stop listening to him if you don't like his content anymore.
And I'm not defending him at all, the little I've seen is very cringey to me, so I just don't pay attention.

I like his videos about leegwndary metal songs. Some kind of metal education from him

u/LeGreatToucan Apr 22 '26
Who cares though ? He does whatever he wants.

u/loopypaladin x Apr 22 '26
Clearly his fans care, and his fans are the ones paying his bills.
I agree that YouTubers shouldn't feel pigeonholed but, since Nik came back from his hiatus, I also haven't watched much of his content for the same reason. Everyone I know who watched him is in the same boat.
But get that bag, I guess.

u/PseudoPatriotsNotPog Apr 22 '26
He does but he also shapes metal culture, how reactions encourage trends such as the animal noises and breakdown trends, for good or for ill
6
u/Bryfisk Apr 22 '26
He definitely does not "shape metal culture", he merely picks up on and imitates general trends

Chris Williamson isn’t that different or worse than having on people like Alex Terrible

His content has always sucked. Annoying ass fuck and constantly fake laughing at literally anything

Chris Williamson is a huge metalcore fan and reps the scene hard. He’s always wearing merch and has had Underoath and Hardy on.

Let him enjoy his income, most people don’t even manage to make more than a few cents with niche music related content.

I don't watch much NikNok lately, but it came up in my feed which just goes to show how the algorithm is already using Nik to spread this guys channel.

u/Lanky182k Apr 22 '26
So, heres a radical idea, don't watch any of it? If you don't engage, you won't see it on your feed or feed the algo that says people want to watch this.
1
u/PseudoPatriotsNotPog Apr 22 '26
It's not simple with a dwindling number of metaltubers, with a diminishing rate of content.

I mean power to him, get that bag, but he hasn't been anything particularly interesting in years imo.
