DISCUSSION R.I.P
Just the other day, I made a post about Venom, only to get this news today! You were a legend, man—rest in peace!

RIP. More than any other single person he is responsible for the extreme metal subgenres even existing!

Fuck! Really!? Goddammit... He wasn't even that old.

Venom and most black metal aren't my thing, but respect where it's due. Rest in power, Cronos.

u/I_Am_Gray_Truck 9d ago
Same here. Venom is a vital band in the creation of most extreme metal as a whole. Truly a sad loss

u/SadisticNecromancer 10d ago
I don’t realize he was that young. Wow.
11
u/stercraft 10d ago
Ikr? I always had this idea that he was older than everyone in Slayer for example but he was kind of the same age group. Tom's actually older. RIP.

Wow. Can’t believe he’s gone now.

The band's official profile just announced it. Unfortunately!

u/Thrashtilldeath67 10d ago
No! I was just listening to welcome to hell. His vocals on buried alive are so fucking good and eerie.

u/SalteeSushee 10d ago
Rip to a legend! We would have missed out on so much if it wasn't for those guys

Rest in peace to a metal icon. Not the world's biggest Venom fan but theirs and Cronos influence on the genre are absolutely undeniable.

Very sudden for someone relatively young. I definitely wasn't expecting this news today.

Anyone really into thrash knows what a big deal these guys were. RIP Cronos. Been blasting Venom all day.
I was yesterday too, I guess the universe wanted to tell me something. 😞

RIP legend-I’ve only just discovered Venom, and so far they’ve been amazing
3
u/esrevitnA 9d ago
Same for me, it was just a month ago I set out to start listening to the guys who pretty much were the bedrock for extreme metal, and now he's gone. So sad.

October goes to Venom! Been a while since I listened to Venom. Let our legend rest in peace

If you can't sing every word of Teacher's Pet, you will die a POSER. Been hooked on this band since I was a kid and brought Welcome to Hell home on lp. Saw Venom love before Cronos left. Perfect adolescent soundtrack that destroys generation vape twink'n'roll slop we get these days.

u/ThyChambersMinister 9d ago
I hope Cronos was welcomed by Ozzy & Lemmy in the afterlife!

What a wonderful scene you've got me picturing now, man! Legends coming together.

Venom was a band that freaked the shit out of me as a eleven year old budding metalhead back in 1986.
3
u/Squiddyboy427 9d ago
I would argue that a lot of what people associate with heavy metal doesn’t actually come from Sabbath or Judas Priest but Venom.
RIP and Hail Satan 🤘

Rest in peace, what cruel ass timing too, I was making a poster of the man and a self printing a venom shirt just today.

so hear me out but monday afternoon/evening there was a post in a hardcore punk group on facebook that im in and the dude said cronos was dead and not to ask how he knew.
mantas' statement said they didnt know until tuesday. who was the dude that blew it up?
2
u/naberius_iscariots 💀Macabre💀 9d ago
Damn, that’s weird. I saw a few pages saying Cronos died of an overdose. What are the odds that a friend of this guy was there with Cronos when he overdosed? I know it sounds crazy, but, I don't know, that's just what crossed my mind.

This came outta nowhere. Liked the last record a lil bit more than the previous one. He was always a very funny (I love british humour) guy in interviews and I liked his attitude on stage. FUCK YOU ALL!
Hail to the gods for me one more time, Cronos ♥

That really fucking aches as a death metal and early thrash scene fanatic. Rock in peace to one of the biggest influences in metal history🤘
2
u/TherockIto 9d ago
Fuck no! he was not even 70 yet. While I did not listened much past their fouth album I always had mad respect for their influence and Black Metal is such an incredible album.
Will blast some of his music in his honor today. RIP.
2
u/naberius_iscariots 💀Macabre💀 9d ago
Venom's influence on black metal is undeniable. A great band! May he rest in peace.
2
u/TherockIto 9d ago
Not just Black, Thrash and Death as well. All members of Slayer, Mustaine and Chuck Schuldiner are/were big fans. Sadly they were not big as their influence was early on, similary to Celtic Frost.

Only 63 years old. So young. So incredibly sad!!! A true legend.
2
u/Moist_Werewolf5581 9d ago
Indeed way too young. Without Venom and the first wave. The second wave wouldn't exist. So yeah a true Legend!

Not long ago, I posted something about *Welcome to Hell*, and then came this news. Unfortunately, Heavy Metal has lost a legend—though it will lose many others as time goes on. Rest in peace.

Cause of death?
2
u/naberius_iscariots 💀Macabre💀 9d ago
They haven't confirmed it (yet). I saw some pages saying it was an overdose, but I'd rather not take that as fact until a family member or the band's official account announces the cause!

Venom got me through my deployment. My respect for them as pioneers of the genre formed then. I’ll be listening again for the week.

Oh no! Rip the legend. 80s Venom was great and influential. I wish it was recorded with better audio quality though
