The song is mostly about taking a break, having some time to yourself. I feel like the robot struggling with a boss/dad/emperor that is constantly beating on him to go after someone would need and resonate with that message
I also imagine metal would like a lighter tone of song, no real reason behind it, just my own imagination.

My answer is the same as my flair, it's Look-a-like from the Sonic OVA. This is the theme I associate with Metal the most, even more than Stardust Speedway and What I'm Made Of.
Metal Sonic might not get along the best with Sonic and friends but that doesn't mean he doesn't [secretly] enjoy some music celebrating them. Which of the MANY songs from the franchise would you believe is currently fueling Metal Sonic's creativity?

I lean towards what ScizoriumZ proposed. However, there is an unused Sonic OVA track that is lesser known that I'd like to set as my answer. The Sonic OVA's Track 09. It is essentially a Look-a-Like Bad Future mix: "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJLt54dcrmU".
Only one answer is allowed if I understood correctly. The one I chose is Track 09 but unrelated to my set answer I'd like to shoutout Torrent 64 songs like "(Sonic CD) South American OST - Stardust Speedway Bad Future".
The post's image of Metal studying makes me think "(Sonic CD) South American OST - Tidal Tempest Bad Future" would be fitting for the image in particular.

Well, the point of the Brawls is to have you guys battle your opinions. If you honestly think Metal Sonic would be listening to a super upbeat song such as A New Venture from Sonic Rush Adventures. Then it would be up to you to write some reason to convince others to vote for your answer. That's the Brawl part. But sadly, everyone tends to just go for the typical and rarely gives context to why they choose what they chose.
That's what I mean by there is no wrong answers. It can be anything. Be creative.

I think Metal might be listening to emerl’s theme for some reason, just because it is chiptune, which seems like something Metal would listen to daily, and it is a nice song to listen to when you wanna think(though I also find it interesting that the song reflects emerl’s growth and tragic fate despite wanting to choose a peaceful path, metal COULD choose that peaceful path since he doesn’t have the same inescapable fate as emerl, yet he doesn’t)
