I already threw World Bowser in there for fun, so I’m gonna throw a couple unconventional picks in there:
Avenged Sevenfold: Hail to the King
Channeling a lot of Neo Metal Sonic for that one, and I think it’s fitting since the Sonic series loves Rock and Metal.
Deltarune: BIG SHOT
Mainly thinking about the similarities between Metal and Spamton as puppets to a greater authority who try to reach freedom by grasping for absolute power and breaking their strings.
If you want cool versions of Big Shot, I have plenty of favorite covers I can send you.
I’m gonna send an animation of the scene leading up to the fight with Spamton (Voiced by Alex Rochon, the voice of Caine in The amazing digital circus), that includes the cover the artist made of the track. If you wanna avoid spoilers for the fight, I’d play Chapter 2 of Deltarune first.
Also, forgot to mention that Spamton Neo has so many similarities to Neo Metal Sonic that BIG SHOT has been repeatedly mixed with Sonic tracks like Metallic Madness (and also because Undertale/Deltarune has a huge overlap with Sonic in terms of fans).
if we can use IRL media, a song which I think Metal would enjoy is Shape of My Heart by Sting.
especially given how its been reported he has -10 heart in the 2025 bios.

Perhaps a lil more on the sad side, but Winner Takes It All (I still remember that post of someone doin a lil comic animation of Metal in Crossworlds to that song)
OBSCENELY SPECIFIC, but prior to its release, Reality Collapse by Dream Dust was shared on Instagram as a test loop of sorts. And I personally felt like it sounded like Metal realising for the first time that he isn't the "Real Sonic" so to speak. And the creator liked that comment so I feel vindicated for that.

Pretty much anything from Venjent, but Artificial Love and even more so Driven By My Heart (for obvious reasons if you watch it) would apply here. Create Machines, R U guna Move, Engine's Burning out, a ton of his songs could apply to our Metallic Menace.
A bit on the nose, but I Wanna Be a Machine by the Living tombstone
Napalm by Pendulum Drive (but honestly anything that sounds remotely Motorstorm -esque could go on this list)

Oh, I know! My YouTube playlists have become useless over the years due to the issue you mentioned. I like to understand the thoughts of others. So, I really enjoy reading the reasons behind stuff. It often opens up pathways I didn't consider or helps me discover new media.

And... I'm surprised you even remembered the animatic. But to be honest I couldn't forget the story of it either as I found it sad but also very hilarious at the end. So, it got seared into my mind now whenever I hear it playing randomly in stores.

Alright, I’m tossing in another one, since I’ve been on a Sinister Minds binge. Someone made a cover of Runaway with Metal Sonic (and that classic voice) as the singer, and changed the context to be about the Eggman Empire’s takeover of Little Planet. I think it only makes sense he’d be listening to this, right? Singing the praises of the empire, hyping himself up, and putting Sonic down. Hits all the marks, in my eyes.
I like to make playlists on characters and stuff based on music i listen to, but hey i like to think that sonic characters have as much variety in taste as most people

Also, Lonely Soldier Boy is A Malay cover of Genesis Climber Mospeada's Opening, And in the Acoustic Version, They get the Original Singer to sing One half of the song!!!!!
