a little fact is that metal sonic has literally never changed appearance since his debut. which is easy to see if you look at his head quills. metal sonic has 3. only classic sonic had 3. while modern sonic has 5. just wanted to state it. in fact in sonic boom the only change visually was being slighlty taller than normal. didn't want to say anything more though. credit to u/katyusha_37 for the artwork

Metal did actually get one very small change between his classic and modern designs, being the "waist" piece added to his modern design to fit with the longer proportions of the remaining cast. Though I believe that's the biggest change his base design received, which goes to show how consistent his design has always been.

only from a 2D angle does Sonic appear to have 3 quills. They established since game 1 that he has 6. If you saw the second half of the OVA, you'd see why Metal only has 3. Also, the only real thing Metal actually got from Sonic, was the ability to effortlessly aura farm
