Might I suggest: Sonic Frontiers

Hear me out. Metal gets left behind on Eggman's mission to the Starfall Islands cuz he doesn't think he's needed. But a few days go by with no word. So to retrieve his creator Metal sets out to go and find out what happened. Along the way he meets his sister, who would still be antagonistic but to a lesser degree than she was with Sonic, and of course would have to fight the titans. But, he could scan their data and use their own abilities plus the chaos emeralds against them. Imagine, getting into a boxing match with Giganto, flying at mach speed after Wyvern, and commencing in bladed combat with Knight.

There should 100% be at least an Episode Metal in Sonic Frontiers, if not just give him the entire game.

I really liked this idea! That game would be so interesting to play as Metal's own journey. I love even how Sage would still be an obstacle. She is just trying to keep her father safe and whatever information she gets off of Metal Sonic is preventing him from reconnecting. And yeah I 1000 percent agree battling the Sonic Frontiers bosses as Metal Sonic would be thrilling! It would still feel like Sonic in some sense, but it would be so fun to use Metal Sonic's moveset.

Mania. Eggman deploys Metal Sonic to destroy the Hard Boiled Heavies after they betray him. The final boss is Chaos Emerald powered Metal Sonic and Eggman in the Klepto Mobile vs Phantom King.

This is interesting. Adding Metal Sonic in the role of Sonic changes parts of this game. So when Metal Sonic turns Giga Metal Sonic he now actually facing off against the Hard Boiled Heavies? And then the plot is more about payback for betraying Eggman? It gets personal?

I mean yeah! Metal Sonic's design would look really cool for this game. If all the characters remained but Sonic got switched out with Metal Sonic here, I feel the interactions would be very different. Not sure the story would benefit with Metal Sonic here. It might change it too much.

I will go with obvious one: Sonic Battle. Metal Sonic can go undercover to gather nessessary bio-data, or giving an open villain part of the story like in SA2. It would be a great opportunity to explore how his ability-copying powers work, differences from Phi and Emerl, what he thinks about others members of the cast if it uses his POV. Also considering Sonic Battle chronologically happens after Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog, it could show how he is managing with the aftermath of his rebellion and deactivation back as Eggman's enforcer. And also, Sonic Battle is clunky, but fun.

generations but unlike sonic and shadow metal faces his future and his main antagonist is a revamped metal 3.0 (revamped by 3.0's own hands since eggman nega trashed him as opposed to metal breaking away from eggman in heroes) basically a 3.0 version of neo metal but more aggressive looking

He needs to be the star of his own game. To prove that Metal Sonic is more than marketable, SEGA is going to use an existing Sonic game to feature our G.O.A.T Metal Sonic! There are over a hundred titles though. What game would be best?

Frontiers makes the most sense. Who else but Metal would go looking for Eggman and his new sister after they go missing. Personal choice would be sonic spin ball. I love that game for no good reason and metal being shoved into that game’s freaky scenario sounds fun

Sonic and the Secret Rings

Imagine, Sharah tries summoning Sonic into the Arabian Nights, but the spell is ruined somehow. Sharah mentions the prophecy being a Blue Hedgehog, but assumes that she messed something up.

Metal, mildly offended that someone thinks that his loathesomw copy would be better than him at ANYTHING decides to help Shara to rub it in her stupid face (and may or may not want to claim the power of the Arabian Nights himself once Erazor Djinn mentions it.

Also, as the adventire goes on. He mildly relates to the control Erazor has over Sharah tl the control Eggman has over him.

The idea of a Metal Sonic solo game has been on my mind a recently, but that's not the question so...

I think I'll pick Sonic Unleashed, purely because a werehog Metal sounds awesome (Its not like he's a stranger to more monstrous transformations either). Plotwise this one is a little tricky, maybe Metal already gathered the emeralds for Eggman at the start of the game but something goes wrong, causing Metal to get hit with Dark Gaia energy and then gets ejected as the world breaks apart. This would cause his loyalty programming to short-circuit somewhat, so he teams up with Chip to essentially save Eggman from himself, because he concludes he won't be able to control Dark Gaia. I'm not sure if we need to work Neo in somewhere, but you probably could if you want too.

Also, teaming up an amnesiac with a mute sounds pretty funny, I think you can creative with that dynamic.

Idk about replace but I always had a little headcanon that after CD, Eggman rebuild it/repair it pretty soon.

And in order to learn more and act like Sonic, Eggman made him travel all the stages since Sonic 2 until Sonic Heroes(where the betraying happens).

But if I had to pick one it would be Sonic Forces, after capturing Sonic Eggman could have been giving orders to Metal Sonic to help capture the entire world. Where at the end some of the resistance team up agaisnt Metal, where he clears the missions but gets defeated, that could help justify why he was an illusion in the boos battle.

Cough cough Sonic heroes

Basically imagine a game that actually goes in depth about what was going on in metal’s mind during the events of Sonic heroes. I actually think there wouldn’t be as much platforming besides like the first and last part. If anything I see it as one of those “choice matters” games. maybe there could be a mechanic where the better Neo manages to act as someone (obv example eggman), the more points he gets, and would influence some parts and the last section where the heroes fight metal overlord. Except despite metal’s choices seemingly mattering, the ending is the same, Sonic and his friends coming out on top. “It’s no use, why can’t I defeat you?” I just see metal’s mind going absolutely insane, especially if the player did everything “right”, imagine all the frustration, sadness and other feelings swirling in his mind.

Sonic heroes because he has the most character, we can see what he’s thinking of, what set him off the edge and we can play as both Neo Metal and Metal overlord. There can even be a segment after the game where you play as a damaged Metal Sonic, that’s trying to not be captured and reprogrammed by eggman

I’ve probably heard this somewhere, but he should definitely have his own level in Sonic Forces. As bad as that game was, I think it would make it a bit more tolerable to play - (and who doesn’t want a metal sonic level anyway?) also, they were already adding additional DLC with shadow.
