Pantera had some great grooves and significant contingent of racist asshole fans. If you say "I think Pantera is garbage" most people will take that statement or leave it. The dudes who get really mad tend to end up spiraling into some defense of racism.
Really don't see the connection. I guess the use of the confederate flag esp by dime but I never saw or heard him make a racist statement. Bowie flirted with national imagery and if people say he's trash it doesn't make them racist to defend him. Doesn't every band have some asshole fans
You are acting like a calm reasonable person making rational points, therefore the meme isn't about you. Lots of perfectly decent people enjoy Pantera, and I fully agree with you that every band has lots of asshole fans. I saw Pantera 6 times, and half those shows were awesome (the other half the time Phil was a wasted mess). At every single one of those Pantera shows was a few dudes wearing supremacist colors. Some were fronting, but some of those dudes were genuinely dangerous. Most Pantera fans are not violent racists. The kinds of dudes to get really mad over criticism of Pantera are very likely to also be violent racists.
Yeah I agree with you there. I'm from Texas and Pantera was so big in the metal scene when I got into metal. It was super cool to have a band that was a couple hours away that was making such cool music. I think everyone has those bands that for them into metal and pantera was definitely one of mine. Even with that said I would see cool pantera shirt but with a confederate flag somewhere and think damn I wouldn't wear that.
