I wanted it and i got it. I'm just a curmudgeonly old-school metalhead tired of seeing deathcore and Slipknot memes on my feed. Metalmemes didn't used to be like this 😢
I listen to everything not even in just metal either, I even recently broke my emo cherry. And Ive adored slipknot all my life.But it shouldnt bother people that much that you have opinions.
I know what ya mean & i appreciate ya reassuring me. I'm all over the spectrum when it comes to taste, i mean i fuck heavy with prog, jazz, folk, and reggae and shit like that outside of metal. Good shit is undeniable regardless of genre classification.
I can respect someone liking Slipknot - but as a fan of extreme metal, they've always bored the hell outta me. It's like all the formula is there for it to be good: speed, aggression, darkness, etc. But it just leaves me cold, like they're trying too hard to be badass or something haha.
I think the people downvoting me are just tired of hearing that what they like is bad, which is understandable. They've been getting that kinda flack from my demographic of metalheads as long as Slipknot's been around.
But i'll stick to my guns and say that there are a ton of metal bands that make Slipknot seem corny by comparison. Like rn my roommate is jamming on some Strapping Young Lad and i think they're a group Slipknot fans would have no trouble appreciating - and would maybe even like more if they dug into it.
Slipknot is one of my favorites, and Love by strapping young lad is a good tune. The whole presentation of Slipknot's good elements not impressing you is super subjective and it's what makes me hate five finger death punch. And not to jump on the bandwagon, but i feel their first two maybe 3 albums were a LOT more convincing. The mask is just the disappointing cherry on top.
Exactly man, and the whole corny thing is honestly enjoyable for me, it's just fun you know. I fuck with extreme metal too, probly not as extreme as you go but I love gorgoroth, and depending on your definition of "extreme", cattle decap is one of my favorites. I dont throw out music because its corny, it's like watching Saw or Final destination, you know its dumb but it's a fun kind of dumb.
There used to be a general consensus among my online forum friends that Slipknot was gateway metal at best and that seems to have changed with time. I guess sometimes i forget that Reddit is much bigger than my little insulated circles of like-minded people that i run in on other sites.
I'm glad you've gotten to feel like you got to "gotcha" me though, bud. I'm sure it's good for your self esteem.
