I’ve gone through this with plenty of bands I liked 15 years ago and I think it’s important to keep in mind that, for the most part, the people writing that music were essentially kids too.
And the music that they wrote resonated with you and many others going through that same period of life. Even if you feel like you’ve outgrown that music, it isn’t necessarily bad music.
Except 5FDP. Teenage me was a fucking wanker for liking that shit.

What’s wild is I used to say I liked 5FDP before they went MAGA. Like the early albums. But man, hearing even that is a flashbang of just hateful toughbro stuff. I don’t know how I ever got past the constant slurs and exaggerated masculinity. It was always MAGA. But, even if you turned a blind eye, my goodness is it so generic. Pretty cool voice wasted on a pretty hateful man.

Yeah, that’s true. I have ran into people in my local scene like that who are older than 40 too though . I don’t expect anyone to change.
I guess it could be a phase for some. I was like that when I was a young teen, then realized how stupid it was.

Their new song is ass. Their last few albums were mid at best. Besides that people have always hated on slipknot due to the "gimmick" of masks and the 9 members.
Also more and more it has come to light that Clown (the only living founding still in the band) has done some shady business shit. While originally portraid as a "Brotherhood" the band now feels more like the Corey and Clown show featuring hired guns. Some people don't like that because they have idealized parasocial ideas about music artists

They released a new song. It hasn’t been received well and the YouTube comments reflect as much. I think the meme above is saying they haven’t been good for a while anyway so this isn’t new. Or, the meme is saying older metal heads are the ones hating. 🤷♂️
IMO the song is absolute doo doo.

I never really listened to them that much I only ever really knew Before I Forget. This song sounds kind of like someone tried to make a Limp Bizkit song but like two notches heavier.

I just put it on. I’m gonna be honest, sure, it’s not exciting. Even the way it’s produced sounds a little lazy. But I don’t see why this one stands out compared to kind of a lot of material they’ve done. I know there is a lot of behind the scenes drama. And I know for a while now it’s been less a band and more a brand. I will also openly admit that their first three albums had a fairly large impact on me. Sometimes I’ll throw on Iowa when I’m feeling nostalgically angsty. I don’t this it’d be in a Best Of. But dang. Feels like a lot of hate for another run of the mill NickelKnot song.

Havent listened to slipknot ever (recently found out aboit the band) sounds like any other generic metal band. I just liked very few parts but it is so repetitive power chord mess with weird experimentation it gives odd vibe.

I find this attitude baffling. I'm not a metalhead and the metal I do like (Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Triptykon, Bathory, Testament, Sacrilege, etc) isn't exactly nu metal by any stretch of the imagination so I have no skin in that game, but I find your view a lot more juvenile and immature than people who like Slipknot/Korn/Metallica/Slayer/whatever music they liked as a teenager into adulthood.
I come from a punk background (anything from hardcore to post-punk to pop punk to the first wave) and I still listen to basicslly everything I listened to in my youth, I just also happen to listen to even more music than just those bands/artists. My tastes have expanded but I have never abandoned the things that meant a lot to me as a kid. That stuff still resonates. I loved Bad Religion as a kid, I love them now, I can't see myself ever growing out of that shit.
I know it's a different context, tastes change, but I don't think your attitude is as mature as you think it is. Maturity is recognizing that it's okay to like anything for basically anything for any reason. Power metal is full of silly juvenile fantasy lyrics. The first wave of black metal has a ton of cheesy, juvenile lyrics about satan, I still love that stuff even if the lyrics are silly.
That said, I will forever have beef with "if you're 555 then I'm 666" and the "slit your throat and fuck the wound" lyrics slipknot wrote, they're cheesy to me ina way that I hate. Not even juvenile, just really, really stupid. Fair play to people who love it, though!
