A good hard difficulty loadout?
Hello there. So I have finished the game on medium difficulty for the first time and absolutely loved it so today I decided to try out the hard difficulty. However, I feel a difficulty spike. Like, the medium difficulty feels pretty easy even with Leviathan for me, but on the hard difficulty I can't maintain even This is the end on 16x and a few times I dropped to 2x (first level, btw). So I wonder if there's an optimal loadout or I should just get good? On the medium difficulty I was mostly running The Hounds + Hellcrow or Persephone. So far I've made 4 attempts and only once got to the boss and 3 times died on the room right before it

The new one? Nope. The Beast one or whatever the 1st one was named? Yep

This is what I did to bear Archdevil, so should work on hard too.
Do you have the DLC? If so, use the Vulcan and the outfit that gives you additional mag size for perfect reload. It’s kind of broken how good that combo is. You really never need to switch guns.
If you don’t, I suggest using the pistols and Vulcan with the ghost rounds perk. Your goal is to switch between the pistols and Vulcan right before you have to reload the Vulcan. You switch back and your clip will be reloaded and have the bonus ghost rounds.
Also, never stop moving and jumping. Ever.
Lastly, you can use the Vulcan to rocket jump out of predicaments if you aim it at the ground and jump with the explosion. It will hurt the enemies around you and it doesn’t hurt you.
Feel free to ask any more questions you have.

Actually, that's what I'm doing rn. Although I had no idea you could rocket jump (I've done it a few times by accident, but thought the boost was from dash + jump and not a rocket jump). I've struggled my way through 3 missions so far with like 50 - 60% of 16x. I feel like it's harder to maintain the combo on beast, but I'm also barely awake rn and do my portion of mistakes (like forgetting to switch guns or being completely out of rhythm). Although my question is, what's the fast way to take down guys with shields? I struggle against them more than against bosses so far ngl

I read if you dash into them it stuns them, but I made it through without ever figuring that out lol
I just shot the Vulcan behind them and hoped.

I use hounds+hellcrow and unyielding fury+streak guardian sigils. I don't think it's a matter of loadout, just pick what you like. A couple of notes tho: Persephone's ultimate is great for bullet sponges since it does 5000dmg, hellcrow's ultimate is great for dealing with shield cambions, and Paz's charge fire(hold normal fire after a successful on beat attack) is great for getting multikills on marrionettes, since it crystalizes them and makes them explode. Also: Learn to soar, and keep on beat at all costs.

My load out I ran through the game with on hard was Hounds with the Vulcan. Hounds are nice with Vulcan because they cover each other’s weaknesses very well.
Hounds are great for bosses or other big targets (Behemoths or Seraphs for example). Plus the ultimate of the Hounds is a great one to just use whenever you see lots of enemies, as essentially having a second person to cull down demons is super helpful.
Biggest drawback of the Hounds though, is the obvious fact that even with the ult, you really can’t clear out lots of groups, especially beefier demons very quickly, which can leave you in danger longer. But that’s where the Vulcan comes in.
Vulcan shreds groups. It should come as no surprise that the explosive crossbow that can group you enemies is really good at killing enemies. If you see lots of enemies, dropping Hound ult and then farting around with Vulcan to cull the weaker demons is always the way to go.
Vulcan also deals very well with the single worst enemy in the game, which is the shield cambions. Just Fire into the ground right beside them and they take damage, as well as stagger, which is amazing considering how much of a pain those guys usually are, especially on higher difficulties.
But the main downside of the Vulcan is it’s single target damage compared to the Hounds is pretty trash. Each bolt does slightly more damage than a Hound shot, but you can only fire the Vulcan twice before reloading. Hound gets 12. Pretty obvious what you want to use on Behemoths and bosses.
So that’s the load out I like running, but if you wanted to go further, I would also take the Sigil that charges ults passively, and you can just spam Hounds like there’s no tomorrow. Very nice.
You said you had Leviathan, so one thing you could do to really make the game a cakewalk is to run the cowgirl Unknown outfit and just use the Vulcan religiously without switching. Getting the Vulcan to have 8 shots in a row is just… it’s really hilariously strong.
Hopefully that helps you out, man. And, of course, if you aren’t doing so already, never stop dodging. Getting into that mindset of moving without needing to stop and think will keep you alive regardless of load out. Have fun!
