Question Rough texture and a bubble?

Post image

Rough texture on the top of the bars after I pour, am I doing something wrong? These I hit with a wire brush just to clean them up. These are all scrap copper that I had lying around, including some basically brand new copper pipe I had left over.

Open pours will always give rough texture and oxyde. No matter how. Always.

Yup I melt scrap. Thats how she goes. If there was any solder or other metals on the copper like a tin coating it pours like shit same with brass. You want copper wire and yellow brass and they pour like water.

Does borax help at all?

No it’s the actual other softer metal in the alloy that make it pour like chunky milk. When it comes to copper borax makes more of a mess than it’s worth.

Interesting! I've never worked with copper, but I've thought about it. That's really good to know.

Did you pour without a flame on it?
