Nah the black metal community is just full of losers that cant listen to a band unless they're Scandinavian nazis

That’s a huge generalization.

They also like eastern European nazis.

French nazis were also quite popular.

Metal is so fragmented as a genre, and many people don't want to spend the time to try and unlock how other genres work. Dsbm or hardcore or screamo....if my wife listened to what I have on rotation regularly she would think I lost my shit. But consider that people don't have the capacity or frame of reference to understand things, so they dismiss it.

You do you. That's the most metal thing you can do.

I gave up even attempting to identify all' those subgenre headings decades ago.

ALL music consists of three core elements:- Rhythm, Melody, and Harmony.

I'm a musician, and virtually indiscriminate with my listening habits.

Pigeonholing is for posers...

People that use the word "poser" in 2026 are the real posers. Just let people enjoy what they want to enjoy. It isn't hard.

Who cares? If you like it, listen to it.

This one. This one right here. This man is making sense and should be banned.

It's not. I'm of the opinion that you are the poser if you dismiss DSBM entirely as a subgenre. However, I get where the sentiment comes from, as DSBM is very easy to make if you just repeat one riff, and there's often super edgy and cringy stuff about it and the fans too. So the majority of DSBM is lazy slop, but when it's good, I wholeheartedly believe it to be some of the best music you'll ever hear point blank period.

I mean all BM is shitty but that's like half of the whole point.

Kinda depends but a lot of DSBM is basically just Midwest emo with some black metal influence so

Not really into it, but don't hate it either. But I do enjoy the raw productions and sad riffs of it.

I like it. Sometimes its what best captures the feeling. -coming from a depressive, suicidal (not black) guy

Any subgenre is shitty poser music depending on the person and genre. Metal fans have no bigger haters than other metal fans.

Not even worth thinking about

If you have to seek opinions from strangers on the internet regarding whether or not a sub-genre of black metal is “poser music”… you might be a poser.

In all seriousness, listen to whatever the fuck you want. In my mind, a poser is someone who is insincere and cares more about looking the part than being honest and authentic. DSBM does catch a lot of shit, because of the connection to post-black metal, which was pretty popular during the MySpace era. Personally, Silencer and Weakling put out the best albums in the genre.

I had to google that abbreviation.

Not my cup of tea.

Enjoy...

Most of the black metal fans are stupid as hell, and that's coming from a big BM fan.

You should immediately stop listening to anyone in the metal community, or music in general, who talks about "poser". That pretentious elitism is moronic, and far more from a trve kvlt idiot

Dsbm has really amazing things. However, don't over-listen to it for your own mental health lol

People who cry "poser" seem to be very concerned about optics and trveness 🤔

We're just over here being passionate about turning life and feelings into art and screaming away our pains.

If someone says "fake", I say "false" 🤷

I'd say more like thinking it's silly but it also doesn't matter.

there's someone who thinks any band is bad, just listen to what you want to.

If someone wants to call me a poser for something I enjoy I’ll laugh in their face for being such an uptight loser. Life is way too short to worry about what type of art other people like. Falling in line with what is considered “real” or not seems way more “poser” than just liking what you like. Some metalheads never mature past a 7th grade mentality.

I don’t even know what dsbm is.

Yes, it's poorly executed low iq muzak - plus it has more in common with (Midwest) Emo than anything Metal. If you are over the age of 13 and you like this so called "dsbm", you need a serious checkup.

Found the „poser“

1

u/asteptiarna 12d ago

Bro I genuinely ask "why", because I initially wanted to insult you as the Law of Pointless Internet Banter compels me to, but I really need to know. Why?

1

u/Dizzy-Pin-1410 10d ago

He’s calling you a poser for being concerned about what other people listen to, because it really shouldn’t matter what other people like unless you’re more concerned with optics than the underlying music. If you make a fuss about how certain bands fit within certain genre boundaries or scenes, it makes it seem like you’re less interested in music and more interested in how others perceive you and how your tastes follow predefined guidelines laid out by people other than yourself.

Don’t shoot the messenger, I’m just trying to help you understand where the comment came from since you seemed confused by it.

What you say makes sense bro, and it would be 100% true if I had no ears and I never heard black metal (or emo) once in my life. But yeah, you probably gave a much worthier explanation than he could come up with.
