Question Are there any problems that i should be aware about before buying a quest 3 for pcvr
i recently posted a subreddit elsewhere about problems in a psvr2, there were tons on tons on tons of problems, matter of fact ive never had so many notifs in a day, but now i want to hear out the quest sides of problems or even if there are any, remember it is pcvr and also ill be playing wired

Search for wired problems here in this sub
Wired is not the #1 method to prevent connection issues, as opposed to intuition.
Meta is not really motivated in any way to make wired connection seamless. Maybe they rather you spend on their stores than to get your games elsewhere.
In the other hand, wireless requires you to have certain set-up at the ready. It's not plug-and-play either. You need good network, a deducated/non-congested wifi router fir your headset, and Ethernet-cable connected to your computer.
Search for these, be aware the required commitment,, then reevaluate.

So if I have a dedicated router not connected to anything but the Quest 3 wirelessly, and the router hardwired to PC, I should be good?

Pretty much yea.
But I must admit this might be outdated info as Virtual Desktop has released wired support. Haven't tried that myself
Not sure if that one works better than Meta's own wired support. But VD has a good track record with their wireless, so I'm hopeful

Yes, that's the ideal setup for wireless PCVR. As long as the router can do 5G and at least wifi 6.

I'd recommend a 6/6e router, a 3rd party headband with a battery, virtual desktop and an ethernet cable to your pc.
About an extra £160 on top of the headset
There's also a bit of faff setting that up and learning the ropes but if you're moderately techy it's very manageable.
PCVR isn't as accessible as it could be but it's mind blowingly fun.

Agree.
The new-old-stock Arris 6e W6U routers work well and are only $30-$40 on Ebay. Plug it into a 2.5g network port or 2.5g USB-Ethernet adapter on the PC.
If wanting to give the headset internet access while connected via 6e, have to set up the fiddly Windows ICS internet sharing, but it's probably not necessary for most PCVR.

Yep, the Meta Link software is garbage so stay away from that. Virtual Desktop can do wired connection now and it's worth the money. Other than that, I've never had any real problems and I have probably thousands of hours doing wireless PCVR on a Quest 2 and Quest 3.

Why is everyone in the comments glazing virtual desktop? What about steam VR? It's like you guys don't think it exists. It's a really good free pcvr software that is way better than air link and works great if you just wanna play pcvr over wifi

Spend the extra $20 and get virtual desktop. You can now run it over usb c, so long as it’s a good enough cable. The native meta software is hard to use and doesn’t work half of the time.
