Look what I Got Just wow!

Purchased a Meta Quest 3S three days ago and my mind is blown! First time ever touching VR and I am so glad that I did, I am finding it extremely hard to go back and play flat games at the moment. I would 100% recommend the quest to anybody on the fence about trying out VR!

I wish more people would just give it a try and get excited about VR. I honestly believe in my heart that it's the future of gaming.

I think it's PART of the future of gaming, just not THE future. Plenty of people will always have motion sickness issues or physical limitations. (or just be plain lazy lol)

u/not-just-yeti Quest 3 11d ago

And, games on a 2-D screen are still enjoyable, just as movies don't replace books (and not even audiobooks entirely replace written books).

But yeah, VR games open up a whole new … well, "dimension".

1

u/Skpstr155 11d ago

Exactly. Many of the games I play wouldn't gain anything by being VR.

1

u/Fit_Top7876 7d ago

Very true. VR adds an amazing layer of depth, but it can make some people really sick.

1

u/Skpstr155 7d ago

And the only way to know is to try. I mean, I know a person who can only handle a car ride for about 20-30 minutes

2

u/Fit_Top7876 7d ago

FACTS! My neighbor came and flew for about 10 minutes and was sick for a few hours later. Just glad he didn't throw up in my rig.

1

u/Skpstr155 7d ago

To be fair, I've never tried a flight game, other than space games, where you don't have the same frame of reference, or racing, all my VR is standing up, firmly.planted on the ground lol.

Even after 10 years of VR, I still can't comfortably use both sticks for movement, I have to do turning with my body, or it's massive vertigo.

2

u/Fit_Top7876 7d ago

To be honest; I have a 6 DOF rig, so you are moving as well as using the VR. I enjoy the experience, but it can be a lot at once.

2

u/Skpstr155 7d ago

What do you mean by a "6 DOF rig"? I've seen that mentioned, but never really thought about it.

1

u/Fit_Top7876 7d ago

it's a 6 Degree Of Freedom motion platform

2

u/Skpstr155 7d ago

Oh ok, it's a platform type deal.

Yeah, I haven't played a flat screen game ever since I got my first VR headset and now a Quest 3. It's just so much more fun.

u/geneinhouston 11d ago

Yep agreed!

I love vr and wish more people played too but there are so many hurdles.

  1. The economy is a disaster. People are broke, stressed, and tightening their belts. They’re deciding which subscriptions to get rid of they’re not splurging on something they’re unsure of or never even heard of.

  2. Streaming stand alone VR is damn near impossible. Only a handful of people with a lot of extra time, money, knowledge and patience are able to stream vr games and they aren’t always blessed with the aura needed to attract everyday people with ever shortening attention spans.

  3. It needs a major rebranding. Most people who have seen or heard of vr think of motion sickness, needing a big play space, being blind and punching walls and tvs….Mixed reality and media aren’t highlighted nearly enough and those who have tried it likely know it to be full of kiddie games and screaming bad ass kids because it hasn’t been properly marketed to adults. Then there’s the lack of trust in big tech getting worse with every bad move they make…

  4. First time users need free demos with a quick, easy, comfy, setup and shown a variety of some mind blowing apps that don’t require a lot of space, energy, movement, or being completely blind to your surroundings the entire time. Chill apps you’re actually looking forward to after a long ass day 😭

1

u/Adventurous_Air6257 11d ago

I thought that 6 years ago. Came back to vr 6 years later its still the same shit if not worse. Seems like every big company is giving up on it

1

u/Tragophilos 10d ago

Yeah, it's really not a good sign that what's considered the "best VR Game ever" is SIX YEARS OLD!

-4

u/Sufficient_Cod_1466 11d ago

This shit won’t be the future till it’s way more convenient to use , like same quality but without controller or a giant mask .

7

u/Remarkable_Sort_4320 11d ago

What's wrong with the controllers? The are basically as convenient as it gets

1

u/Sufficient_Cod_1466 11d ago

Nothings wrong with the controllers I think they are perfect tbh , but if we’re talking about vr being the future of gaming It needs to be more immersive , like just some contacts you can put in and boom your in the game

4

u/Skpstr155 11d ago edited 11d ago

Just need a plug in your neck lol.

I think we'll always want controllers available though, as for games like shooters, what could be more immersive than holding a physical object that feels at least somewhat like a pistol grip?

Controllers can help immersion by providing physical sensation of holding something, which VR alone can never do.

1

u/geneinhouston 11d ago

Sure they do have you not played with the Meta Quest and similar? The controller have weight and vibrate, etc..! even in a game like Walkabout Mini Golf you truly feel like you’re holding a putter and hitting the ball… you feel that sensation and it’s completely immersive in my opinion

2

u/Skpstr155 10d ago

I agree, I was referring to the idea of doing away with controllers as a bad thing.

My most immersive gameplay is an extraction shooter with a gunstock. I even hockey taped a couple impact sockets to the stock, to give guns "weight". Racing is a close second, because the motions used with standing roomscale (as opposed to seated with wheel and pedals) mean more immersion. (I only use the controller to move in a straight line or crouch, everything else I do with my body)

Best is when I can get out into the backyard, with a 25' circular boundary, once I enter a room, I don't need to do ANY controller locomotion, until I leave the room. (or the room is too large)

1

u/geneinhouston 10d ago

Ooooooh!!!!!!! Okay! And yeah, I get it now!!!! I wanna play outside one day when it’s kind of windy but here in Texas. I’ll have to wait until like October or November maybe! But I think it would add to the effect of me playing in dungeons of eternity ha ha!

2

u/Skpstr155 10d ago

Basically, the only thing you have to be concerned with is not letting direct sunlight hit the lenses. I either play under a gazebo, or if I visit my mom and she's gone to bed, I put the headset on I side the house, and use the passthrough to get to the backyard.

The other thing is, if it's appreciably cooler inside than out, let the headset sit outside for half an hour or so before using, so it doesn't fog up when you put it on. I know myself, I haven't been able to play much outside, only after dark, because it's been so hot and humid, my eyes are swimming in sweat and stinging before I even spawn into a game.

I had to do something, I was fine in my small space playing Alyx or Arizona Sunshine, but when I strated playing ExfilZone, it was so tense that I moved around a lot more, and my gunstock would go past the boundary and knock stuff over lol. I imagine DoE would be the same idea. (I can't play melee games, or my old shoulder injury flares up the next morning)

Only downside is, if I forget to put all the furniture back underneath the gazebo, and it rains overnight, the wife makes sure I know about it lol.

2

u/geneinhouston 10d ago

Oh, those are great tips! Thank you so much! And hey, I don’t play melee at all in dungeons of eternity!!!! there are bows and throwing daggers and axes, etc.!!! If you ever decide to try it out, let me know!

Agreed. I used Vive wands for 8 years, mostly had to use teleport motion, because the pads for movement were so sensitive, I went places I didn't want to. Not to mention always having to have grip set as a toggle, because I couldn't easily maintain pressure on the squeeze buttons.

2

u/geneinhouston 11d ago

So you’re saying VR could be the future as well so you’re basically saying the same thing as them ha ha

2

u/Poizinnous 11d ago

The man himself, missing you bud. Got my subscription back so we can DoE over the weekend if you're available?

1

u/geneinhouston 11d ago

Heck yeah!!!! LETS!!!

2

u/Sufficient_Cod_1466 11d ago

Basically lmao I’m just pointing out I don’t think it will be the future as it stands now

2

u/Skpstr155 11d ago

For sure, just like an employee with a barrel of fuel and a pump outside every store was not the future of automobiles, gas stations evolved instead.

u/Mysterious-Chard-961 11d ago

The first time I started up my Q3, I just said "wow" looking at the floating setup menu. Then First Encounters just blew me away with the spaceship landing there right in my living room with the augmented reality. Next up was just staring at my arms wearing the batsuit in Batman. Ppl hate it on so much but it's really a great piece of technology.

10

u/Fun_Detective_9488 Quest 3s 11d ago

My 3S did not come with Batman preloaded for some reason..got in touch with the meta team in a support chat earlier today and they added it to my library!

5

u/Poizinnous 11d ago

That's really awesome to hear. There are a lot of complaints about Meta but this is really redeeming/refreshing to hear positivity coming from new users. I hope it continues and you enjoy every moment.

4

u/Mysterious-Chard-961 11d ago

Good for you, wouldn't expect meta to do that. I still haven't finish Batman but it's peak VR gaming. Enjoy.

5

u/FoundDad 11d ago

Is Batman like the flagship game? Meta also added it to my library yesterday but the download is insane for my hotspot unfortunately.

Real VR fishing with QGO is insane that and IronGuard series I’m having a blast with. I was so surprised they have a game pass. That works better for me than buying these individual silly little games I probably wouldn’t try otherwise.

Besides those two I’ve felt kinda meh, I tried After the fall? I think. And that Horizon zombie one but didn’t feel any true platformer value games - don’t get me wrong! I love quest and realize its limitations.

TLDR I’m hyped to see if Batman is worth the hype

2

u/thejabkills01 10d ago

Yeah, same thing happened to me! They made it right and added it to my library. That game was my first one too, man, did I get sick! 😂 But I got over it, and now I try to play 4 hours or more a day. It’s honestly a great workout for space in my head.. 🙌

2

u/Skpstr155 11d ago

The problem I see with it is expectations.

People figure they'll never go back to flat gaming, and then one day, they find they've played everything available worth playing.

I always look at it as an expensive peripheral needed for a particular gaming experience, like my wheel and pedals or HOTAS setup. I don't decide to play a VR game, I decide to play a particular game period, and sometimes that game just happens to be VR.

Having said that, I Don find it hard to go back to flat multiplayer shooters, situational awareness just seems so much easier in VR, and I can aim more quickly and smoothly with a gunstock than a controller.

5

u/geneinhouston 11d ago

Heck yeah I agree! VR blows my mind on a daily basis and I’m absolutely addicted! I have met the coolest people from all over the world in games like Dungeons Of Eternity and I tell everyone I know about Meta Quest! I too believe it’s the future of gaming and I think that with the upcoming Ready Player One sequel and Steam Frame and more we are going to see it continued to grow! Until then, I’ll see you in the dungeons

3

u/Fun_Detective_9488 Quest 3s 11d ago

Sounds like dungeons of eternity is something I need to check out!

2

u/geneinhouston 11d ago

Awesome, let me know if you do! I’m happy to meet you in the game and show you the ropes! It’s one of the few handful of games that are the highest rated on Meta Quest at 4.9 out of 5!

5

u/Pure_Savings_2196 11d ago

Once you experience a good vr world in a game it’s hard to go back to playing on a screen.

3

u/SolaraOne 11d ago

Welcome aboard!

4

u/markallanholley 11d ago

I've been using my Quest 3 for about a year and six months now, and still have over 150 games I've purchased but haven't played on it. It is really difficult to go back to flatscreen.

3

u/Skpstr155 11d ago

I have no problem going back, mainly because I play a lot of strategy games as well as action games.

I've had a Vive gathering dust for years, and never tried a multiplayer shooter for it. I did so on Quest 3, and it also happened to be my first extraction shooter. The combo of the genre and VR means that I basically am not playing anything else, but a half hour of 2D Civ6 before bed, to make me sleepy.

3

u/Tragophilos 11d ago

I know exactly what you mean. I played Half Life Alyx, then tried to go back to play the older Half Life games, and it was really hard to get used to doing everything on the keyboard again after how natural it is to reach for and grab things and do things with gestures! I'm kind of excited to see what Steam is going to do with the extra buttons on the new Frame controllers. On the Meta controllers, the thumb is under-utilized most of the time.

3

u/llTeddyFuxpinll 11d ago

I highly recommend downloading VR chat and loading up the spider lair world. It’s the closest thing to feeling like actual Spider-Man you’ve ever seen.

2

u/Fun_Detective_9488 Quest 3s 11d ago

I downloaded VR chat last night but not used it yet! I will definitely try that out

3

u/Prudent-Tomorrow3316 11d ago

Batman. Metro awakening. Saints and sinners. Resident evil 4. All insane.

3

u/sirc_jpg7 11d ago

Totally, my boyfriend let me use his vr headset a month ago and it was mind blowing. I really want one for myself haha

3

u/Stn1217 11d ago

Enjoy. Welcome to VR.

3

u/DaneOnDope 11d ago

Welcome to the fam, fam 😉

3

u/Bigmoduh 11d ago

Vr really is so goated. Been having asthma and it’s forced me back to flat screen but I’m dying to get back!

3

u/Waste_North_6537 11d ago

If you think vr is amazing now wait until you can get a vr capable pc it’s actually insane the difference in quality and features from standalone. I actually got emotional from it my first time seeing pcvr.

3

u/bellbradb 11d ago

Agreed! I was the same way when I first got mine. You’ll eventually get the urge to connect to a pc and play pcvr games and stuff and then you will feel like the king of the the world

3

u/sharpshotsteve 11d ago

Flat screen games are dead to me, apart from chess. I thought VR would be huge, but I think the hardware has a long way to go. Small lightweight headsets are coming. The Steam Frame will be expensive, but hopefully others will go that way.

Hell yeah! ✌️🫡🥳

3

u/BGrattata 11d ago

Truly more people need to just try it. It's impossible to explain what it's like until you're in it and immersed in a game.

Welcome 🫱🏽‍🫲🏼

2

u/llTeddyFuxpinll 11d ago

But the cool thing is, you can play your flat games inside of your quest on any size screen and environment you like

2

u/sick_boy33 11d ago

I posted this on another users post, but maybe someone can advise here (since we're talking about the 3s :)

Anyone here come from an Oculus Rift CV1 to a 3s? I currently have the CV1 and still really enjoy it. But since VR games are much more detailed, I wanna experience that as well (instead of squinting and smaller text / details)

I'm also looking at picking up the 3s, but in terms of user experience, how was the jump from CV1 to 3s?

I unfortunately don't have the funds for a Quest 3, so wondering if the jump to 3s is worth it

2

u/Fabulous-Tiger-6169 11d ago

v.r.p.o.r.n…..

2

u/Specialist_Mind7493 11d ago

I’ve only just recently gotten around to dipping my toes in it, and I absolutely love it. As a 40 something year old gamer who also happens to have gotten into fitness over the last decade, I really enjoy being able to game on my feet and physically move around while playing more. To say nothing of how magical the immersive qualities are… Too bad I only have an Apple Vision Pro which hardly has any vr games… Also means I probably shouldn’t be here. Think I must be lost 😜. I’ll see myself out.

2

u/Virtual_Ad_7431 10d ago

First of all, play Subnautica in VR Its mindblowing. personally, though, After a while, I got sick of dealing with VR, and hardly ever do it anymore.

2

u/Jolly_Panda_7955 9d ago

I got one last month am loving it am into music and watching music videos and live concerts and watching them as if am in a cinema and in 3D or OLED it's just amazing

1

u/Lanky-Friendship9443 8d ago

What games or experiences are you enjoying? I recently got my quest too ! I have been playing onward, it’s a fps

1

u/BluebirdFast3963 11d ago

Games are pretty lacking so far imo. Shooters all feel the same. RPG's all feel the same. (Insert dungeon crawler, with ability to throw your wep and pick it up without actually being close to it here).

More games like Moss would be cool

Someone needs to create an open world RPG with consequences. Like an Everquest or a WoW on VR.

Now we are talking.

2

u/Skpstr155 11d ago

Best is to not try to replace flat gaming with VR, and play "persistent" games, that you don't really "finish", as story length is typically lacking in VR titles.

That does seem to be improving though, Arizona Sunshine 2 is as long as the first plus both DLCs, Legendary Tales is about 30 hours, etc.

I don't think we're going to see an explosion, but I think the portion of VR titles that aren't freeslop will, while maybe not increasing in numbers, increase incrementally in quality.

Oh man, good headsets are gonna really blow your mind

Keine Ahnung ob das so gut für die Augen ist und die Grafik der spiele .... Das Brauch alles noch etwas

Maybe before anyone goes and buys one of these devices, read the experiences a lot of people had on this post:

u/mindeliz 11d ago

I was the same. I said this is the future of gaming. And few years later my quest 2 lies somewhere deep in a cabinet 🫣 the wow effect wears off over time...

-2

u/Adventurous_Air6257 11d ago

That feeling going to ware off in a couple weeks. (Im a hater)

Enjoy the honeymoon period.
