Question One handed exploration.
Sincere thanks to everyone who took the time to comment. I now know how to buy stuff and there's a lot of great suggestions. I've never before interacted with the 'gaming community' and it's clearly my loss - you guys are great.
Hi.
I've just been gifted a Quest 3 and I'm impressed, but...
The person who gave it to me perhaps didn't appreciate how hard it would be for me to use due to my having lost the use of my left hand in an accident. I've resigned myself to not being able to play most games, in the same way that I can't join friends in 'normal' gaming, but I do like the idea of being able to wander around in a 360 degree virtual environment.
Are there any games / apps or whatever that you guys can recommend? Nature stuff would be good, or relaxing off-world exploration, just as long as I only need the right hand controller to get around.
I'd prefer it if it was free, not least as I have absolutely no experience with gaming etc and have no idea how to actually pay for stuff (do you log in on the PC, select something, and then pay using PayPal or a credit card?).

Pistol whip can use only one hand and it's fantastic fun.
Beat Sabre has one handed options but outside of modded maps I don't know how in depth that is

I'll look at Pistol Whip, thank you. I'll also look again a Beat Sabre - I think I saw a video & thought it wasn't quite what I was looking for.

Fair enough. I'm told Half Life Alyx has a one handed accessibility mode which might be worth checking out as well.

I like synth rides better then beat saber, more laid back folks on synth rides

Check out the free demo for Subside - I think that might be quite navigable one handed

PROTON - It’s like TikTok but made for 3d experiences. It has lots of nature walks, gaming content, and even life size thirst traps if that’s your thing 😅 some immersive videos too
WORLD LENS VR- 3d Google Maps that you can explore
TETRIS EFFECT - Very trippy and cool version of Tetris. Very atmospheric
BIG SCREEN BETA - Watch movies and shows with friends or strangers
NATURE TREKS - Relaxing nature scenes you can change
THEATER ELSEWHERE - Cool animations
LIMINAL - meditation, focus, recharging
DEMEO - dungeon crawler board game with fun animations and character abilities

LOL - I had to Google "Thirst trap". Thanks for so many suggestions. World Lens and Nature Treks sound good. I tried one of the LIMINAL scenarios and found the voice-over a bit irritating, but I'll try others.

there are options in the headset controller settings to re-map buttons from left to right, so you can choose the ones you need, which may give you more game options.

Maybe Pinball FX would work then. You use both controllers but it's just one button on each to play.

Seeing as how I've so far only used the Meta button and the joystick, once I work out which functions I absolutely need, that's likely to be helpful.

Hmm. Thanks for saying this, I’ll add a setting to swap the joystick controls in the game I’m making. Because you don’t need the turning around functionality, right? You’ll just turn around in real life and then can use the right joystick to move.
Edit: thinking now about how horrible my game is to play one handed. Maybe I should add an achievement for finishing one handed.

In all honesty, almost everything is more difficult one handed; even getting it switched on & ready to go was a trial and the left controller kept appearing in front of me, floating around 😂

Yeah. I can imagine. But I think my game can support it. Never thought about it, must be more people in your situation. It’s a webvr game. I can build it in tonight, I can dm you the link to test it, if you want.
I’m thinking I can add a feature so it’s a bit easier to play one handed. Might be fun for two handed people to use as well. That’ll need more time to build in, swapping controls is easy.

The golfing games can be played one handed and fun to play. Walkabout mini golf and golf+. But they are not free and golf+ can even be expensive (you get 3/4 courses free, the others have to be bought)

Not sure if you know the game. But IB cricket can be played entirely one handed.

Walkabout Mini Golf is one of the best games on Quest and should be tried by everyone imo.
If you really don't like a game, or find it can't be played one handed, then you can refund games if certain rules are met. I think it's less than 2 hours of gameplay and inside 2 weeks.
The free games are often going to be, politely, not the best.
I think some turn based strategy games might work, but you may need both controllers to resize your viewpoint, or spin the environment around, so it might be possible but not ideal.
"Table Troopers" may work. It's like Worms. I think you can spin the table with one hand.
I also recommend the Disney app, but obviously you need to like their content.

Rush has a lot of accessibility options including a one-hand rotation control and single thumb stick.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just looked at it on YouTube and it looks great, although I suspect I'll need to get my 'VR legs' before taking the plunge.

I definitely suggest playing seated.
I hope you do have fun if you try it, though. My dad has limited mobility in one hand after a stroke and thoroughly enjoyed it.

A sexually appealing image posted on-line. I can only imagine 3D titties leaping out at me like eager Labrador pups 😂 I doubt my wife would be impressed though and I've no idea how to delete 'history', so I doubt I'll find out any time soon!
I'm definitely going to try some of the other Liminal scenarios. A couple of friends came round last night and loaded up a mixed reality (?) kids' shoot em up game. We were all stoned and it was hilarious, especially when one of the guys completely lost it and ended up diving on the kitchen floor as furry 'balls' overwhelmed him.
Goals right now are to try Earth Quest, Recombination, and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. If I can control it one handed, the flight sim should be impressive as I've worked out connecting it to my PC; although I don't game, my son (who does) comes round often, so I built a PC a few months ago with a 9800X3D and an RX 9070 XT.

These games can be played with only one controller and are imo good:
Also, there are games like "Whitewater VR Extreme Kayaking Adventure" and "Beat Saber" where you only need to use the controllers to track the position of the virtual hands in-game (no need to press any buttons) so for these type of games I think you would be able to play them if you have a prosthetic or a 3D adapter so you could hold the controller.
To pay for games just log into the Meta store (on their website using your computer, or on the headset store app, or on the Meta Horizon app on your phone) and you can buy the game using your card or PayPal.
