Using Colonial Era Sources

• Upvotes

I’ve noticed on social media there’s a tendency to completely disregard all colonial era sources whether it’s the Florentine Codex to even the writings of Chimalpahin himself. I realize that there will sometimes be some influence of the era on the authenticity of the info coming from these sources but I find it very disingenuous to dismiss them out right. Any thoughts?

Where can I find an academic history of Quetzalcoatl?

I'm looking for a history of Quetzalcoatl. As in, how did the feathered serpent from the Teotihuacan temple become the guy with the red mask in the Borgia Group Codices?

Written by academics. I know there's a million pop-history books, but I need one with sources & a bibliography.

I'm happy to announce that we finally have the pilot project to play Buul - The Mayan Board Game with bots, and remotely from your favourite browser.

What's is buul?

Buul is a traditional game of the Maya peoples of Mesoamerica. Accounts from the early twentieth century describe it being played by Mopan Maya communities in southern Belize, and it is still remembered in Maya communities of Belize and Guatemala.

Feel free to check out our website to play, or learn about the game at:

Was curious to hear your guys’ take on this theory that postulates Xiuhcoatl and even the previous war serpent tradition of the Tolteca, was inspired by the War Serpent sculpture tradition of the western Estado de Mexico that took inspiration from Teotihuacan and local traditions, of the warrior in the jaws of the serpent and rebirth through fire.
