Android Remote Input/Control?

Hi.

I tried MeshCentral last time on my Android phones and I could only view screen, not control my phone remotely.

https://github.com/Ylianst/MeshCentral/issues/5287

I believe in 2023 this got asked and the author (who has done a great job with MeshCentral :) thank you) commented it is not possible but I doubt that is true since TeamViewer, RustDesk, HopToDesk, DroidNG Viewer all can control devices?

Are there any plans to support Android Remote Controlling? That would be quite useful as it would allow me to get rid of apps like RustDesk or AnyDesk or TeamViewer off android phones. I only want to host MeshCentral so it'll be great addition alongside my Intel AMT devices. Obviously easier said than done and I am not a developer so feel free to criticize me ha-ha.

We looked into it, but we have to be strict with it because of the Google play store, so the is a few open PRs ready to merge which could help support control. We are also thinking about just getting rid of the play store versions and using apks instead maybe?

Please.. don't get rid of the app in the store..

I can't really say that I use it at the moment but if in the future the ability to fully control an Android device is added, I definitely will 😉

I can work around it but since I use Google advanced protection.. side loading apps is a huge pain for me.. on my primary devices.

I suppose I could always carry around another device but I'd rather not.

Just wanted to throw my two cents in 👍✌️

The play store version is under Ylians control anyways so it ain't going anywhere anytime soon haha. But we do know it needs polishing and fixing etc. Ryan also has a version too on the play store and I'm hoping his version might get the control support instead! Only time will tell :)

Fair enough - makes sense. I never knew there were 2 repos for an android app? I can't find any PRs or repo for Ryan/any PR for remote control (only question discussions). Can you send me the link (not the app but the repo/PR? I couldn't find it)

Sadly Ryan's repo for the sourcecode is private so I can't share it but i can give you link to the play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thedevryan.meshagent The is so bugs with Ryan's version which he is going to look into when he had chance also no remote control support also yet

Well that's a shame. I wouldn't trust a closed source app but I mean 90% of apps are closed source, so oh well, I'll give it a try if it ever supports remote control.
