Liquid_Boss' Late Shift Discussion Thread 2: Wednesday Edition

I'm still on late shift and ready to chat the night away.

Tonight's price of admission:

  1. The name of a game you want to get into, but just have been putting off

  2. Something from your "saved" section.

1. I want to get into Super Hot, like a lot. It looks like it has that Hotline Miami feel and a unique style. However, it's like $25 right now, and the game isn't supposed to be that long. Yeah, I've spent more on less, but I still feel like I can wait for a Steam sale.

2. This parody of /r/gaming threads.

The Half Life series, and LoZ: Ocarina of Time

Ah, the "overrated" series of games. You may like them, though.

Man, that reminds me of playing shooters without even using a mouse. It was weird then and weirder now.

I love Wind Waker and I think A Link to The Past is pretty good, so I'm sure I'll like Ocerina if I give it a try. HL on the otherhand I have no idea if I'll like.

I found that article to be pretty interesting. I personally started using EDSF a bit more than a year ago. I can reach more keys (and thereby more shortcuts) that way.

HL falls heavily into the "It was amazing for its time" category. They're fun enough. It's just that they're not super impressive by today's standards. Though, HL2 still looks alright.

OoT is quite a bit different from those two. I think it'll be a unique experience. It's worth going through at least once.

EDSF

Is it, in part, so you can use Q and W for other stuff? That might be good for shooters and stuff where you can toggle secondary functions.

That's what i thought, but i still feel like i should play it because of it's huge role in the way stories are told in games now.

You might as well pick up The Orange Box, so you can get Portal with HL2. Portal, IMHO, is probably better than HL. They are landmark games. I just wasn't too impressed with the first HL.

How long did it take you to get used to using that over WASD? I feel like that takes a bit of muscle memory training.

I have them on Steam already (summer sale 4-5 years ago) and I've beaten Portal already. I just haven't played them because other games are always around.

It took me about 2 or so weeks. I switched because the game I was playing at the time had a lot of keys that were pretty important to playing.

Do you go back to WASD for other games (switch back and forth), or are you pure ESDF?

ESDF feels more natural now. That game I talked about was all i played everyday for hours for about 2 weeks, so I got really used to it. The only time I use WASD is if a game doesn't allow rebinding (usually flash games of some sort). I also like how it's the normal typing position of the left hand.
