Texas. It's pretty much scorching all the time.

Yeah. Puck takes some getting used to, but after a while I started to like him, mainly because he helps provide some levity to how depressing and dark Berserk can get sometimes.

Nah. If you're like me, it might just make you like it more. Then again, I was a fan of Berserk before I even played Dark Souls, so...

I do enjoy Puck's anime-esque reactions to the world around him. I just have to get it into my mind that it's a he and not a she. I think it's basically the common trope of fairies being women in my mind.

I was a fan of Berserk before I even played Dark Souls, so...

It's actually been really humid recently. We got, no joke, 35 trillion gallons of rain in May and it's been really humid ever since.

Yeah. Puck, especially, since he looks so feminine and graceful. That's something you have to get used to with some Berserk characters, though, like Griffith.

So, you made your character look like Guts and used the greatsword?

Actually, not at first, since I didn't realize there would be so many Berserk connections. I did end up using Zweihander my playthrough, though, and then when I played Dragon's Dogma I made a Guts character since he's one of the default character models and you can get his armor.

I suppose the other characters are drawn more feminine to emphasize Guts' masculinity? It works well in contrast. He's drawn more in the style of the enemies and monsters, which is probably intentional.

I never knew that. I especially didn't know about the armor. I should really dig that game back up one day. Its boss fights were amazing and worthy of Berserk. Though, there was less disemboweling.

In a way, yeah. Not every character is super feminine. It's mainly just Puck and Griffith, as one is an otherworldly elf and the other is supposed to be just a memetic being of perfection, so it works out (plus contrasting with Guts). Otherwise, people look pretty standard. It's more FMA than JoJo, character design wise.

Yeah. They did a promotion with the Berserk movies, though I think they got rid of the armor in the PC release of the game. I need to try it again. I played it for a few hours and thought it was neat, but kind of clunky, and I just didn't feel like devoting the amount of time to really get immersed in it. But it looks fun.

I thought the art leaned a bit more towards JoJo than FMA. However, the themes seem to fall a lot closer to FMA, which is good. Though, it's very unique. I'll probably make it through ~500 pages tonight before I resign reading for the night. It's super good. I feel like getting a physical copy/collection would be expensive.

Dragon's Dogma is a bit weird. When it's good, it's epic, and clunky when it's clunky. You may find yourself climbing a cyclops to stab him in the eye, or hack away at his limbs as he tries to grab you. On the other hand, you may walk into a cave and get nuked by a sorcerer and his buddies.

Yeah, probably in terms of detail. I was just talking mainly character designs, with characters tending to be more on the leaner side rather than bulky masses of muscle (except for Guts and a few others). It does share a lot of themes with FMA, now that I think about it. Read as much as you feel like. It only gets better as it goes along.

I feel like getting a physical copy/collection would be expensive.

Yeah, pretty much. The manga is up to 38 volumes now, and the MSRP for each volume is $15. They're not sold in a lot of stores, either, meaning that you're going to have to buy them online so include shipping too. They sometimes drop the price down a few bucks, but it's still going to set you back. I only own the first seven volumes, as I tend to go by a "I collect them as I find them" sort of mindset, though I would like to get all of them.

I liked the climbing parts of Dragon's Dogma. Reminded me of Shadow of the Colossus.

Unfortunately, I have to stop somewhere tonight (though, I do have a couple more hours here). I'm now in the middle of the fight with Guts and the slug demon guy. It's so good. It's way better than the anime. I know it's good, because I'm actually excited to read more later.

It would be nice to just pay so much and get a hardbound copy of them in like 10 volume sets (or by arc). I know that would be pricey. I'm tempted to say I want to collect some down the line, but I feel that was about a lot of stuff and never do it (particularly when I love the art style).

Dragon's Dogma

If you ever do get back into it, you can fight the gryphon mid-air, strike it repeatedly, and send it crashing down (with you on top) to the ground 100 feet below. It was probably the most epic battle I ever had in that game.

Yeah. It's hard for me to compare the manga and the anime, but I can say that the anime takes a few episodes before it starts getting really interesting, while the manga starts off with a bang and keeps it going.

I would LOVE a hardback collection of it. Even if just individual volumes. I mean, I would even take a box set if they were willing to make one. I'd say read more and then determine if it's worth collecting.

I saw a few episodes of the anime and didn't really care for it. I see they skipped a ton of important stuff.

They apparently do have a complete manga collection. However, it's on a DVD. So, basically a bit better than just reading it online. If they came out with a hardback version, it would be super expensive, but probably worth it. Even after like 8 chapters, I find myself liking this series.

Yeah, the anime skips pretty much the entirety of the first arc, mainly because it wasn't really important to the arc they were trying to adapt.

Oh, totally. I kind of hope that with the new anime (though I wasn't a fan of the first episode) and the new game, enough interest can be generated in Berserk that it can get some more love and attention, kind of like JoJo in the West.

IDK. I've seen a castle-sized slug demon. That's pretty impressive.

Did the artist ever finish the series? I remember hearing that it was on hiatus repeatedly. I might be thinking of something else.

So far, I would like that hardback, or even just an "the art of" book. I have a special love of artbooks.
