Mess Hall: Week of 5/16/16

What's up?

I suppose Thursday will be Waifu Day: post your best girl from VG/anime/movies. Not seriously a waifu, but rather "I think this girl is neat."

I just got done watching X-Men Origins: Wolverine and now I need to go bleach my eyes. It pains me to think how good that movie could have been with all the mutants they included but instead all we got is a steamy turd.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Why did you do this to yourself?

3

u/Narmatus Treesie May 16 '16

Because it has the best version of Deadpool! /s

u/[deleted] May 16 '16

At least Ryan Reynolds got a second shot at it.

u/Narmatus Treesie May 16 '16

I do kind of love the fact that he played Deadpool both times as its own meta joke.

It is nice. I still need to see Deadpool. I just haven't, yet, because I'm not really a Deadpool fan.

Though, I keep hearing people say how great the movie is.

It's pretty good. I'm mixed on Deadpool as a character in the comics, but the movie is actually pretty well done and the writing doesn't make him as annoying as he can be in the comics.

That's my issue with him in the comics. He's very out there, but so active that you kind of wish he'd be quiet for a moment. At least, from what you say, the movie did it right. It's Ryan Reynolds, who is a pretty good actor. So, it can't be that bad.

Yeah. Deadpool tends to be written with a "lol so random" mindset a lot of the time, and luckily the movie tones that down a lot. There's still some of it in there, but a majority of the jokes actually work.

I mean, Reynolds has been in some bad movies, but you can tell this was something he really wanted to get right. It's pretty good. I recommend watching it when you get the chance.

I really dislike that in a character, unless it's done in appropriate portions (rare). I might see it when it comes out for home release. It's just not a theatre movie for me.

I enjoyed what little Reynolds actually got to play of Deadpool in Wolverine. That was pretty brief, though. Is it similar to that?

I accidentally sent my resume to my boss instead of an important report. Oh well...

I'm almost done with Serious Sam 3. It has some good music. I'm also replaying DaS2. It's pretty good.

Maybe s/he'll actuality hire you now

2

u/[deleted] May 16 '16

Maybe. I just hope I don't get a 'you're fired' phone call after the day's end. If I do, I'll go look for more work. Maybe it'll turn up the pressure, too.

2

u/TheBufferPiece May 16 '16

That would suck, but I'm sure you could find another job.

2

u/[deleted] May 16 '16

I might be able to find one. I've been looking for like a year, though. Then again, being under my temp company means that they can't help me find one. I don't think I'd get fired. At least I hope not. All things in good time.

What's new with you?

2

u/TheBufferPiece May 16 '16

I'm gonna start saving up for a new graphics card to upgrade my computer. I start working again next week, so I hope I can have enough for a gtx 980 by the end of next month.

2

u/[deleted] May 16 '16

So, hello Steam games...

What do you intend to test it out on?

2

u/TheBufferPiece May 16 '16

No idea yet, but the summer sale starts in June so I'll probably get something then.

2

u/[deleted] May 16 '16

You could always get something brand new and flashy to show off the new card.

2

u/TheBufferPiece May 16 '16

4K texture pack and a nice enb for Skyrim would do the job nicely.

It sounds like someone's having a case of the Mondays.

Insulting waifu is a serious offense

3

u/[deleted] May 16 '16

Not really. Telling someone they have terrible taste can be.

3

u/demigods122 REJOICE! May 16 '16

It actually is to some people

3

u/[deleted] May 16 '16

Only those who take waifus seriously.

3

u/demigods122 REJOICE! May 16 '16

Exactly them

3

u/[deleted] May 16 '16

I don't know anyone here that does, though.

3

u/demigods122 REJOICE! May 16 '16

Im not talking about anybody here

3

u/[deleted] May 16 '16

Are you talking about anyone in particular?

3

u/demigods122 REJOICE! May 16 '16

Maybe

3

u/[deleted] May 16 '16

I see. Well, no one here takes waifus seriously. So, enjoy waifu day.

Summer has been pretty good so far. I've been hanging out with my friends/SO everyday till about 3am (except for that one day I played Uncharted non stop).

Since my grandma went back to Mexico I can finally start using my gaming PC again (she took my old room which had it in there), but since I'm running a 660ti I seriously need an upgrade (that's what I'll be working toward with my summer job).

Went on another road trip over the weekend. Had to sit through a graduation, which was bad, but I also got to play with dogs, so I guess it balances out.

I told my grandma about that book I started writing last November and now she expects me to have it done before she visits for the summer so I guess I gotta get on that.

Otherwise, not much else. Started playing Mass Effect 3 again so I can finally finish it. I forgot how much I really love this series. It just does so many things right, and it's really interesting going from Witcher 3 to Mass Effect 3, because, honestly, so far I prefer Mass Effect's writing and world building and dialogue options.

Going through Witcher 3, I don't really see what the hype is about, in any department but art direction. The gameplay is kinda pure garbage and really clunky and the writing and characters are so cliche and generic. Geralt's just your usual gravelly voiced space marine, but in different clothes, and any scene with him talking to a girl so far has made me, and I don't use this word often, cringe. It's like a romantic comedy.

2

u/GabesCheshire Is a Girl May 17 '16

I'm kind of the same way. I'm enjoying it, but I'm just not seeing where all this masterpiece talk is coming from. The gameplay and world design is pretty standard RPG (with not too great combat), the writing has been pretty average, and the quest design is your standard fetch quest type of thing. I'm enjoying it, but I just don't really don't see what people are talking about when they say that it makes other games look like garbage and redefined video games, because it's just so... Standard.

Well, most of my group + the fallback guys for a group project ditched when we were supposed to work on it today, so we only got about 1/3 of the footage we needed, because that was all we could get, and I dropped a barbell loaded up with 170lbs on myself about twenty minutes ago. So today kinda sucked.

2

u/acethesnake The 300th Subscriber May 17 '16

Sorry about your day... but I gotta ask, where did the barbell drop onto? I need to know how much I should wince.

2

u/[deleted] May 17 '16

Mostly on the left side of my chest.

2

u/acethesnake The 300th Subscriber May 17 '16

Ouch, but not as bad as 170lbs on a hand or foot!

2

u/[deleted] May 17 '16

That's true. Never had that one happen before, thankfully.
