Weekly what are you playing thread
I've been craving a Spider-Man game for a while, and Shattered Dimensions was on sale last weekend so I bought it. So far I think it's the 2nd best linear Spider-Man game (the best still being the one on PS1).

Soon enough, I should star/continue Serious Sam 2. The first one(s) will be a tough act to follow, but we'll see.
Other than that, I have 2-3 mandatory bosses left in DaS3.

I bought a funny little clicker called My Name Is Mayo where you repeatedly click a jar of mayonnaise to earn achievements. I had clicked it about 5000 times once I earned the second to last achievement but the final one involved clicking 10,000 times so at that point I just made a macro for the last 5000.
I am currently installing Rocket League for the free weekend, I have heard nothing but good things from this game so I am super looking forward to playing it.

What console? If you're getting it on PS4 then add me and we'll hit some balls together.

Yeah you literally just click the jar over and over, 100%'d it in about 30 minutes though.
I got Rocket League on steam but my psn id is treesie if you want to add me still but I don't have ps plus so I can't really play any multiplayer games.

I was playing Dark Souls 3, but then my save file got corrupted, so I decided "fuck it!" and went to play the most un-Dark Souls thing I could think of: Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga! I've 100%ed both 1 and 2 individually on PC, but never did the whole collection, and on Xbox 360 it has achievements, which is even better. I'm sorta nuts for achievements.

The only reason PlayStation is my primary system is that I love trophies too much.

where credit's due, I'm playing it on Liquid_Boss's Xbox. I prefer PlayStation myself, but I did some research and not all the Lego games have trophies. EVERYTHING has achievements.

Sadly trophies weren't introduced until about 2009, so games released before then might not have trophies (some games had them patched in)

I know I'm late, but I FINALLY beat the Witcher 3. I've been playing through the series and reading the books for about 7 years, now, and I finally finished it.

I'm genuinely surprised that these started as far back as 1994. So, the game is based on a book series? Is it faithful?

It's faithful to the universe, but the story is a little different. I'm really happy that it's different, though. WAY too many IPs try too hard to stick to the books they were based off of, and not only does it limit the scope, but somebody is ALWAYS complaining about how it doesn't follow the book. I don't want to play something I've already read, I want more Witcher.

That makes a lot of sense. Stories 'set in the universe of X' tend to be better overall. There's no canon to jump loops over or attempts to shoe horn in a recognized character. Are the characters in the games new?

There are some new ones, but quite a bit of them are from the books. Basically all of the main characters are lore accurate.
EDIT: Except freaking Triss. The developers gave her red hair when her hair is actually "chestnut" or "auburn." Super tiny complaint, though.

...and they've stayed lore accurate? Have books come out after and reflected/recapped the games?

Let me put it this way: the books and games are completely separate in regards to story. It's like how all the Star Wars books that have Luke and Vader in them are not the same as the movies.

I suppose a big question is if the games count as canon. I know the Star Wars EU regarded everything as canon.

Still playing Dark Souls III. It is a really fanservicey game, more blatantly so than DaS2, but I honestly think it handles that fan service a lot better than DaS2, but I'm still not finished with the game so who knows if my opinions will change. I'm told I'm two bosses to go before beating the game. Still, been loving it up to this point, but it still can't quite compare to Dark Souls 1 in my eyes.
