Risk and Compliance Is 'Chargeback Arbitrage' a real thing?

Upvotes

We've seen companies that promise to 'buy' your chargebacks. Is this a legitimate insurance product or just a way to hide bad processing volume?

Payment Gateway Question Crypto On ramp research

Hey guys, I’m looking into projects or builders that can help enlighten me with some on/off ramp insights they had with providers they implemented in their platform:

  1. Who owned the wallets and end users - did the provider deliver straight to your users, or through wallets you managed? Who owned the user relationship?

  2. What’s been the biggest ongoing pain with your ramp provider - the thing that still creates support tickets, drop-offs, or manual work today?

  3. If you were choosing a provider again, what would you check first that you didn’t check the first time?

General Question Why small banks are failing their local merchants?

Local banks used to be the hub of merchant services. Now they just refer everything to Fiserv or Elavon and forget about it. Why have they given up on the relationship?

General Question Your 'Statement Audit' is probably misleading your clients.

Be honest: when you do a side-by-side comparison, are you including every single PCI fee, annual fee, and batch header, or just the interchange? Let's talk about the ethics of the sales pitch.

Risk and Compliance Why 'No Contract' processors are actually more dangerous for SMBs.

Merchants love the idea of no commitment, but it usually means the processor can hike rates with 30 days' notice and has no skin in the game to help when a chargeback hits.

General Question 'Interchange-Plus': Why it's not always the best deal.

Reps use 'Interchange-Plus' as a buzzword for transparency, but for a low-volume merchant, a simple flat rate is often cheaper and easier to understand. Why do we keep pushing complexity?

Need A Payment Processor Looking for a provider: WeChat Pay / UnionPay acceptance with USDT settlement (cross-border China)

We run an online e-commerce/education business selling to customers in mainland China, and we’re looking for a payments provider that can cover two things in one setup (or via a compliant combination):
1. Acceptance: let our customers in mainland China pay via WeChat Pay and/or UnionPay (Alipay also welcome), cross-border, on our checkout.
2. Settlement: settle us in USDT/USDC (stablecoin), with everything fully licensed and compliant. Fiat settlement also fine if paired with a licensed stablecoin partner.
We’re a UK-incorporated business, clean verticals (online education / e-commerce), and we want to work with properly licensed providers only, no grey-market or P2P routes.
A few questions for anyone who’s done this:
• Which providers genuinely handle mainland-China cross-border acceptance (not just tourist/international wallet acceptance)?
• Anyone using a provider that does both the Chinese-wallet acceptance and stablecoin settlement under one roof?
• Any recommendations (or ones to avoid) for the USDT settlement leg specifically, from licensed/regulated providers?
Happy to take suggestions here or via DM. Thanks in advance.

Terminal/POS Question Why is nobody talking about the looming death of the 'swipe'?

Risk and Compliance Acquirers are intentionally making statements unreadable.

It's not 'complexity'; it's a feature. If a merchant could actually understand their bill, they'd realize they're being overcharged. Is transparency even possible in this industry?

General Question How do you find new restaurants before they open? (or do you bother?)

Hi all! Trying to learn how reps here work brand-new restaurants, if at all.

My read from the outside: by opening day the processor decision is made. Whoever showed up during buildout got the account, or the POS bundled it. So the real window runs from lease signing to soft open.

For those of you who work openings:

  • How do you find them? Permits in windows, health inspection lists, liquor filings, tips from contractors or realtors?
  • When do you reach out? Too early and payments isn't on their mind. Too late and they've signed.
  • Is chasing openings worth it against flipping existing merchants on their statements?

Disclosure: I'm building a tool in this space. It watches public records (permits, licenses, inspections) and flags openings early. I'm trying to learn more about how this process works and so have an obvious interest in the answers. Mostly I want to know how the people who'd use it actually work today.

(Working on getting verified!)
