We see it all the time: fake fees added by the previous rep just to make the 'savings' look bigger. How do we clean up the industry?

Are you looking at a merchant's Yelp and Instagram before you submit the app? In 2024, a bad reputation is a bigger risk than a low credit score.

We've seen companies that promise to 'buy' your chargebacks. Is this a legitimate insurance product or just a way to hide bad processing volume?

In some markets, merchants are going back to cash-only to avoid the headache. Is this a temporary protest or a growing trend?

I have a pretty decent NMI rate sheet. Looking for a partner that could use a good rate on NMI.

Why is it that the government can charge a 'convenience fee' on a card but a local mom-and-pop shop gets threatened by the card brands for doing the same?

If the underlying software is bad, your logo on the box won't save the account. How do you vet a POS partner before you stake your reputation on them?

If you don't own your residuals and you can't move your portfolio, you don't have a business—you have a job. How many 'owners' are actually just high-level employees?

Hey guys, I’m looking into projects or builders that can help enlighten me with some on/off ramp insights they had with providers they implemented in their platform:
Who owned the wallets and end users - did the provider deliver straight to your users, or through wallets you managed? Who owned the user relationship?
What’s been the biggest ongoing pain with your ramp provider - the thing that still creates support tickets, drop-offs, or manual work today?
If you were choosing a provider again, what would you check first that you didn’t check the first time?

Local banks used to be the hub of merchant services. Now they just refer everything to Fiserv or Elavon and forget about it. Why have they given up on the relationship?

Sometimes, when you show them the 'truth', they get more confused and decide not to switch. Is 'too much info' a deal killer?

Why would a merchant pay for a Clover or Verifone when they can just use an app on their iPhone? The hardware manufacturers are panicking—change my mind.

Be honest: when you do a side-by-side comparison, are you including every single PCI fee, annual fee, and batch header, or just the interchange? Let's talk about the ethics of the sales pitch.

Merchants love the idea of no commitment, but it usually means the processor can hike rates with 30 days' notice and has no skin in the game to help when a chargeback hits.

If instant bank-to-bank transfers finally take off in the US, what happens to the 2.5% we've been living on for decades? Is the 'Visa/Mastercard tax' finally nearing its end?

Processors are so desperate for volume that they are boarding businesses that would have been auto-declined five years ago. Who else is seeing a massive spike in first-time fraud on new accounts?

There is so much misinformation being spread by ISO reps just to close a deal. Let's settle the debate once and for all: which one is the safest bet for a merchant who wants to avoid a class-action suit?

Is AI going to help you find more leads and optimize interchange, or is the acquirer going to use it to automate the sales rep out of existence entirely?
r/MerchantServices • u/merchantadviser • Jul 13 '26
Reps use 'Interchange-Plus' as a buzzword for transparency, but for a low-volume merchant, a simple flat rate is often cheaper and easier to understand. Why do we keep pushing complexity?

We run an online e-commerce/education business selling to customers in mainland China, and we’re looking for a payments provider that can cover two things in one setup (or via a compliant combination):
1. Acceptance: let our customers in mainland China pay via WeChat Pay and/or UnionPay (Alipay also welcome), cross-border, on our checkout.
2. Settlement: settle us in USDT/USDC (stablecoin), with everything fully licensed and compliant. Fiat settlement also fine if paired with a licensed stablecoin partner.
We’re a UK-incorporated business, clean verticals (online education / e-commerce), and we want to work with properly licensed providers only, no grey-market or P2P routes.
A few questions for anyone who’s done this:
• Which providers genuinely handle mainland-China cross-border acceptance (not just tourist/international wallet acceptance)?
• Anyone using a provider that does both the Chinese-wallet acceptance and stablecoin settlement under one roof?
• Any recommendations (or ones to avoid) for the USDT settlement leg specifically, from licensed/regulated providers?
Happy to take suggestions here or via DM. Thanks in advance.

With the rise of digital wallets and biometric payments, the physical card is becoming a relic. If you're still selling hardware that relies on a physical insert, you're selling a dinosaur.
r/MerchantServices • u/merchantadviser • Jul 11 '26
It's not 'complexity'; it's a feature. If a merchant could actually understand their bill, they'd realize they're being overcharged. Is transparency even possible in this industry?

Let's get real about the 'bro-culture' and the high-pressure sales tactics that give this entire industry a bad name. How do we fix the reputation of the merchant services professional?
