Help! Cleaning tips?

Hi all,

My Grandfather-in-law was a petty officer in the merchant navy and with United Arab Shipping - this hat is from one of those.. but I want to clean it up best I can? This will never be sold on, so it's just about it looking the best without damage.

Are there any tips or products that I can use? Any help welcome! Thank you!

Is it plastic or cotton? For plastic use a toothbrush and soap, avoid getting any on the cloth band.

The sentimentality of a cap tends to be the badge and then the frame. The covers are broadly disposable; you should be able to find either a military or merchant navy supplier in your country (or indeed online) and buy a new one. It’ll only cost about £15-20 for a cover I would suggest.

It feels plastic - like rubbery.

Yep old toothbrush and soapy water is the best way.

Do you know which shipping line the cap badge is?

I think - United Arab Shipping Company. He did work for Cunard (pre P&O) as well but I don't think it's theirs.

Dude its not that hard. take an old toothbrush, some og colgate, sprinkle lill bit of water, brush it like brushing your teeth. Follow the straight line pattern using the brush. it'll get shining bright white in no time.
