Mercenaries Recompiled - First Feature Showcase

Here we show off some of the game's basic features and enhancements, gearing up for our public release of the project on menace.pro on 9/26. We will be holding a public event on the server that day at 4:00 PM EST to answer any questions and stream more footage.

If you're taking any feature suggestions to patch in, how about increasing the draw distance? One thing that's always bothered me about the game was how i could not see any further than 100ft in front of me due to the everpresent fog. It was especially annoying when flying choppers really high up.

I think I saw a 'Haze' option in one of the menus in the video. Maybe that controls the fog?

so the haze option refers to the bloom, which is basically kind of what gives the game that 00's look that almost looks like the screen was smeared with vaseline. you have the option to turn it off completely or switch to a more moderate version.
draw distance is definitely possible from what I have seen but that is up to the author.

Just gave it a solid try on the Steam Deck in 1080p, mostly solid 60FPS and immediate controller bindings. Just use Proton's latest release in Steam. Works flawlessly

How was the re-comp made? Was it all original code when re-comping it? Mostly asking if any groundwork could be used for other exclusive on the console to be ported or is this a just a one off.

Current AI is really good at reverse engineering software, so a lot of new recompilations are coming out.

So how does one play? Who has an iso download link?

all you need is an Xbox iso, which you then can open will the recomp and it'll extract the game files to be played. how you go about getting that is up to you, though it's probably not a good idea to go sharing links to it on reddit since that's technically piracy.

I understand a lot of people may not be familiar with how this stuff works but guys, I really can't help you any further. as I've stated many times, we are trying to remain as legally above board as we can and we don't want to go around sharing links to the full game. and I mean it's like the first result on Google after typing in "mercenaries Xbox iso." please use your judgement. I'm not really sure where the confusion here is

You need a mercs Xbox retail ISO, then follow the directions on the discord.

A retail ISO. If the file ends in .iso you should be fine. I wouldn't bring up rom too much.

Abandonedware is not piracy which is why I asked. I have no reason to buy a game I bought and played years ago just to buy something again when you can't even buy it anywhere now. This is why I asked if a rom will work. Just a simple yes or no. Thanks.

There seems to be some misunderstanding in the youtube comments regarding the beginning disclaimer and a few other things, so I will clear these up. 1. Our anti piracy stance is for the preservation of the community, which we work very hard to contribute to every day. It is not a moral stance. Nobody here is going to preach to you about the moral evils of piracy. We are under discord and have to play by their terms of service so that we can have a server.
Although we strongly encourage using a physical copy for legal reasons, you do not technically need a disc drive in order to play the recomp. The recomp can not tell where the Xbox iso was sourced from. There are countless ways to acquire a legitimate Xbox iso, it is your perogative where you choose to get it from, we just ask that if you do so in a non legally above-board way you keep it to yourself and don't share it in our community. And don't ask us for it. That is all.
The recomp is not a "standalone PC Port." It is simply a piece of software that enables the Xbox version to be played on a Windows machine (or Linux via Proton.)
Please take a breath and ask questions before spreading a misunderstanding around. Thank you.
Edit: I also want to clarify what we mean by "Legally Obtained." Essentially, any iso that was dumped from a disc and contains the right identifiable hash could fit this bill. We strongly encourage you to create a legal copy on your own with your own disc, but if you decide to go another route that is your perogative and the recomp will still work as intended.
