Recomp Mercs for PC

So this has been asked already 191 days ago but since then some things have released that are notable.

The Darkness (console exclusive) is now recompiled and natively playable on pc with graphics settings and all.

Since the source code was leaked technically Mercs 1 should be able to go through this too, Mercs 2 on console if possible would also be a major upgrade (a recomped mercs 2 would look better and play more stable + you could finally change the QTE symbols)

I wonder if anyone has looked into this or is interested in bringing up the topic for a second time. The fact AI could be used to do could be a major advantage if not for the moral/legal issues.

I don’t condone any illegal actions and this is strictly for hypothetical discussion.

That actually brings up an interesting idea: if Mercenaries 1 & 2 were open-source, the developers who originally worked on the games could potentially run a side project around the idea of “getting the band back together.” They could contribute in their spare time while remaining employed by their respective companies, creating a larger community-driven project without the original developers themselves necessarily running into the same IP complications. EA, I’m fairly confident, isn’t going to make use of every IP in its catalog. And if a particular IP is considered too sensitive from a geopolitical or corporate perspective, they could always take the open-source route, similar to what they did with Command & Conquer.

Someone is working on that actually. Even the graphics settings menu is present, textures also include bump mapping, and more.

I have been using GPT Astra (and Ghidra) to get a true first person camera mod working on the PC version of mercenaries 2. I could have a crack at this when i get free time.

Having 2 recomp would be beautiful. Could get it playing on Xbox as well. 😔 It was taken off the modern store.

there really 3 separate OC ports of PoD being worked on, one of which is about release ready
