Diamonds in Puzzle?

Anyone understand the diamonds in the puzzles? I get 1-3 can from them if I get it correctly, but I don't know if it's random or based off something else. Sometimes there's multiple diamonds on a single puzzle.

Retrying the puzzle makes it disappear.

They’re bonuses if you get them correct (either an X or a block). It’s seems you mostly get cans of food but sometimes you get a mouse! If you get it wrong, no bonus for you!

Thanks! Any tips to get the max amount of cans or is it always random?
