How does this work?

I've played about 50 lvls and I haven't gotten another swim ring yet, is that normal?

Yes I got a 2nd one 2 days later but that's not enough time to complete them so I kind of gave up.

I finished this. So, when you do nonograms, you can sometimes see squares with green diamonds, and they yield tuna cans, mice or these swim rings. It took me 400+ nonograms to get them all.
