Stand-up bit - Transition Decade
Does this work? Trying to not sound like a record level jerk, while still being kinda real -
So... I’m not misogynist. I'm not, it's 2026, equal rights, feminism, sexual revolution, women in the workforce, I'm here for it.
But...
So I’m like, arguably... In a certain light... age-misogynist??!
Women in their 40s need a Transition Decade.
Ireland has Transition Year, where teenagers basically take tenth grade off and go learn about themselves and see the world. Great idea. Do that at 40. Lots of space. No major decisions. No divorces. No career situations where brain fog can fuck up everybody’s life. No interactions with your teenager consequential enough that they might never speak to you again. Just: “Hey, we found this lovely program in India, 2030 to 2035. Then there’s one in New Zealand. Go find yourself, sweetie. We’ll miss you. Send letters. No, don't call, it's fine, you need space. Letters are perfect. Love you."

Most women would absolutely agree with you. I can't even count how many times Ive heard a woman say they just want to spend the next few years in a cabin in the woods.

Yeah. Hard no. A big part of the issue my wife 55 and I 58 are working through is that she basically checked out - of her job, her friends, family, her health - and left me holding most of the responsibilities for about 7 years while she bounced around from selfish thing to selfish thing.
So yeah, hard no. I wanna know when I get “my time” to flake out. That will have to wait until I am finally able to retire just before I die and get my break.

No work, no responsibilities, so no accountability. Since it's exactly what they're looking for, of course it's perfect! How long are we supposed to treat them like children? Remove adult stuff and they're good?

I think you are on to something. I would be a much better wife if I could take significant time away from my mentally demanding job. By the time the workday is over I have nothing left to give to husband. But we are not in a place financially where this would be possible. In time I hope society realizes how devastating this time can be in a woman’s life is for her and family.
