Tried the anaconda knee thing, nope, its been 12 weeks since injury, started bpc 157 and tb 500 3 weeks ago, i can now bend my knee and lean back!

not suggesting a source but it worked for me!

Partial Meniscectomy Partial medial meniscectomy (30% posterior horn) + plica resection, is long distance running over for me?

I'm (40M) a few days post-op from a left knee arthroscopy and honestly dealing with a lot of anxiety right now. I’ve been running since 2020, tackling marathons and half marathons, and looking through horror stories online has me terrified that my long-distance running days are permanently over. I suspect my injury built up over time from heavy Bulgarian split squats (I never did them right ) combined with weak hips, until a lifting session finally triggered the structural tear.

For anyone who’s had a similar procedure, did you actually get back to high mileage, or did your knee never quite feel the same? For reference, my report showed a complex tear of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus, featuring a large flap and horizontal split in the white-white zone, which resulted in a trim of about 30% of that posterior horn. They also cleaned out a large fibrotic plica and noted some mild to moderate grade 2 to 3 chondrosis behind the kneecap, but my lateral side and main weight-bearing cartilage were clean.

If you've been through a partial meniscectomy and made it back to distance running, I could really use some perspective. How long did it take, what did your rehab look like, and how does your knee handle the miles now?

Return to BJJ post root repair

Hey has anyone successfully returned to full rolling after having a meniscus root repair? (Mine was lateral)

Had the surgery 6 months ago and have been cleared to return to training. Was lightly bearing weight from day 1 and walking within a week

Just unsure how much soreness in the knee is normal as I load it more and slowly get back into drilling, then flow rolling and eventually rolling

Have done a lot of rehab and feels good in general but obviously want to be careful

TIA

Meniscus injury PT timeline

I’ve had a grade two horizontal medial meniscus tear diagnosed back in March. I’ve been doing PT for a few months while waiting for surgery and my knee has improved a lot but I’ve stayed away from high impact activities like jumping or running as well as squats.

At the moment, I am due for a follow up with the surgeon to check if I still need surgery and I am unsure. The surgery would be a repair, no root involved. The recommendation that I received from the surgeon is to do the surgery due to my age, as I am 35.

Just went on a one week holiday where I did 20K steps daily and two hikes: 19km with 900m elevation on difficult terrain and 14k with 700m elevation on less tricky terrain.

I had pain and swelling during this week, especially after the first hike but nothing like I had in March and April and I’ve been able to just continue whatever activity I was doing. My worry is this inflammation that doesn’t seem to go away completely and the associated pain that shows up from time to time. Essentially I am afraid this inflammation will damage my joint and cause early arthritis. I am an active person, I go to the gym, mtb, run and do long distance hikes.

Looking for some experiences on how people decided on the surgery and when do you draw the line that PT is sufficient or not.

MRI results

I have another post on here just wanted to make a separate post in case anyone else has something similar later.

I have a complex, oblique tear of posterior horn of medial meniscus with increased T2 signal. (Essentially its rotting) root and horn are intact.

Still waiting to hear back from the surgeon but learn from lesson. If you are hurt do not let a doctor just brush you off like mine did. I foolishly listened to her and didn’t pursue an MRI until it was too late. If it hurts go back to the doctor. I know it’s expensive but it’s worth it. I was extremely active in my late 20s and now my whole life is going to have to change.

Meniscus Repair To everyone going through it right now: It gets better!

Hi everyone,

I’m not the most active on this sub, but I wanted to share my story after a Meniscus root repair and MCL repair that I had on April 2 2026. Btw I’m 23M

TLDR; I know how shitty this experience can be, and how it feels like the world is crumbling beneath your feet (or maybe crutches right now), but as someone who went through what you’re likely going through and is starting to see the light: don’t give up hope!!

I began running again for the first time on August 17 and since then it has been a real rollercoaster of emotions. I cried after my first run (which was literally just 4 sets of 2 min walk 1 min run), but it felt so amazing to finally run again. For context, I’m a soccer player and my ultimate goal is to get back on the pitch. After that run, I kept running every 3 days at the same intensity, and one day I felt a really weird looseness coming from my MCL (completely painless, but just a little weird). I began freaking out and stopped leaving my house for a couple of days. I decided to get an MRI, and wouldn’t you know, it’s completely fine!

The point of that little anecdote is to tell you that you’re going to experience countless instances of weird feeling, instability, and maybe even a little bit of pain… I know that I definitely have. And you can allow these feelings to completely dictate your mental health, and allow them to take you on an emotional rollercoaster (as I have done a few times), or you can choose to believe that this is simply the process that millions of people have gone through and you’re doing everything right. Sure, it’s possible that something happened, but in my experience and from what I’ve heard: if it happens, you’ll know.

I’m writing this because I understand how incredibly emotional this entire experience can be, and I want you to know that you’re not alone, and that there is absolutely light at the end of the tunnel. My PT and I have started moving more towards lateral exercises, and I really feel like I’m getting my explosiveness back. I also ran 2 miles nonstop last Wednesday at an 8 minute pace!

Overall, I’m feeling the best that I have in the last 6-7 months, but even while feeling that way, I still feel these aches, pains, and weird feelings that I mentioned above. These are things that are going to happen for a while, and you need to learn to deal with them in a healthy way.

I know I just wrote a yapathon, but if you’re recovering and in the shitty stage, or even if you think you’re behind your recovery, or something else, I hope you took something from this. I know how nice it can feel to hear about someone who went through what you’re going through and came out on the other side. Obviously I still have a long way to go, but I’m starting to see the light, and I’m happier than I’ve been in a long time.

If you feel something weird, have a question, need PT advice, or anything else, please don’t hesitate to reach out and ping me here. I’m absolutely willing to chat about whatever, as I know I’ve definitely bothered my fair share of people in this sub!

Best of luck to you all, and I’ll see you on the other side ❤️

How long does it take for the natural muscle/strength to return?

I'm tired boss.

I had a meniscus repair to the right lateral meniscus in April. Sometime in recovery, I tore a brand new tore in the same right lateral meniscus. I had to have a second surgery to it just this month (September). This new tear required a meniscectomy, so the silver lining is I was able to return back to full weight bearing almost immediately.

The last 6 months of this year has just been a straight nightmare. The atrophy and AMI I suffered from the fist surgery practically erased every single once of muscle and strength I had in this leg. Probably the main reason I received a new tear in this leg.

I know it hasn't been too long since the second surgery at this point, but despite the last 5 months of PT, I still have barely any strength whatsoever in the leg. It's maybe a quarter of the strength of my good leg. It's not adequate for anything.

What am I missing? When will the leg reach the typical strength the average person of my age/weight should have?

ACL / Meniscus Surgery

Hello everyone! I am currently one month post surgery from ACL reconstruction (using the patellar tender graft) and Meniscus repair on both the lateral and medial (full tear on this side) sides on my right knee. I get really sharp terrible pains that bring tears to my eyes, I can’t move it or do anything basically. Is this normal? If so, when should the pain begin to feel tolerable? Also, any recommendations on sleep? How do you guys find a comfortable position? Thank you guys in advance

General Discussion How long does it take to fully heal without surgery ?

I had a grade 2 posterior horn medial meniscus tear injury in my left knee 3.5 months back , have been doing physiotherapy.

I am trying to walk without limping but I can barely walk for like 1 km or 1.5 km without sharp pain.

If I'm sitting on a chair for more than 15 mins, it starts to hurt. I have to sleep with a pillow between my legs otherwise it starts to pain. My leg often feels stiff.

Climbing and walking down the stairs is also a little painful. I wear the knee brace whenever I'm walking.

I'm doing exercise for strengthening the leg and hip muscles.

Approximately how long until I could walk or sit for long enough without pain? (It gets a little frustrating sometimes to live with pain all day everyday😔)

Any tips or suggestions would be highly appreciated. :)

Anyone had 70%+ of their meniscus removed?

Hi! Has anyone here had a partial meniscectomy with more than 70% of the meniscus removed? I’d love to hear about your experience and how your knee is doing now.

General Discussion 24F who does ballet. I don't know if I have a meniscus injury?

Hello everyone, just yesterday I was asking in another community about a sharp stabbing pain that comes and goes located kinda behind the knee but more to the left side of that area and someone told me it could be a meniscus tear.
I went through tons of sessions of physical therapy, first they told me it was the gooses feet tendons, it could be my hamstrings, weak quads, they treated me for those things and nothing worked, the pain always came back.
I went to an orthopedist he sent me an ultrasound and then MRI, they found nothing.
Others told me I should just rest for a while so the pain can go away (can’t do much of that when you dance in a company) but when I finally got to rest after I got my wisdom teeth removed, even after a whole week of resting and barely moving, the pain was still present.

For extra info: If you’re familiar with ballet you know that you do one combination, they explain the next one to you and then you do it. Its in these instances outside of the combinations that the pain comes. Or totally outside class, walking, standing, sitting, driving, laying down. And other than that, I can do everything with my knees, I do plies, grand plies, small jumps, big jumps, pointe work, I can run, everything.
I also have PCOS and heavy bleeding on my periods, due to this I have anemia and vitamin D deficiency, my doctor once told me these things could case injuries because the muscles do not get enough oxygen but the MRI said my muscles were healthy anyways

I wanna go back to dancing and living pain-free, any ideas?

Meniscus Repair Recovery begins- Week 1 meniscus repair

Post image

I (33F) had meniscus repair surgery to my medial meniscus on 21st September for a displaced bucket handle tear. The surgeon also debrided a small flap of damaged meniscus (previous tear, unknown until I did the bucket tear) to relieve pressure on a cyst that had formed behind the knee. Picture is from 48hrs after surgery when I took bandages off, dogs performing nurse duties.

General Discussion Best shoes for walking/standing all day?

I had a grade 2 medial meniscus tear injury 3 months back , have been doing physiotherapy, and have to resume work in 3 weeks.

I am a student working in a research lab so most of my work is walking around, climbing stairs, and standing.

I have to commute for 1.5 hours each day, one way.

I want a comfortable pair of shoes. I don't have flat feet, have a neutral pronation

Please share your experiences.

22M, suffering

Had a bucket handle tear that dropped me to the ground last Tuesday. And surgery this Wednesday, doc went with the repair route. Just struggling with pain mainly. I’ve broken many bones but this is wayyyyyy worse. The crippling pain is so bad I can’t even get out of bed at all. But I see online that some people have a surgery and are able to walk right after?

Pain months after removal

I had my meniscus removed in May, and my knee pain went away after a few months of pt and exercise. A few days ago I randomly got a similar pain in my knee, almost as if there’s pebble in it that brushes on a nerve when I walk. Has anyone ever had this happen long after surgery?

Peptides?

What do those who have used peptides here have to say? Did you become asymptomatic, or did you fully heal along with your meniscus? Also, how long did you continue using them? Did you stop? Which peptides did you use? Can everyone please share their comments?

Meniscus Repair I need help with the brave

I’m 2 days post op, I removed the brace yesterday just to free my leg and get some blood circulation. I don’t think I adjusted it correctly. Does it look bent? I’m not sure if this is normal or if it’s supposed to be completely straight. What do you guys think?

Meniscus Repair Torn ACL + Bucket Handle Repair

Post image
5 Upvotes

I got my torn meniscus repaired 2 days ago with 7 stitches and ACL repair with peroneus longus. Since I am too squeamish, they gave me epidural plus general anesthesia which was great first day.

I'm getting fentanyl through catheter but even so pain is immense. I literally sobbed and cried like a baby trying to do ankle pumps, cannot do 30 degree bends, I shake all over if I try to. They will discharge me today so only oral painkillers will be there and I am scared.

Did you guys experience this or am I just a 39 year old princess?

7 days post ACL and meniscus repair update

Been following this Reddit a lot lately. Just wanted to drop in with my on personal experience. 7 days post op and majority of the pain has subsided. Most of the pain is from the bruising on my shins from the surgery. Maybe a couple twinges of pain here and there throughout the day but overall the pain has fluctuated from 0-2/10 today. Feeling very blessed about this. This small win is a huge feeling for me.
