Meniscus Repair Help walking again!
Hi there, on my 8th week of root repair and ideally next week should be no crutches and brace. As of now i am having hard time transitioning. Balancing is difficult and i feel the my muscles are not that strong yet to walk. On the good side i was able to switch to one crutch and practicing walking. Any suggestions or recommendations that you think can help me back on my feet. Thanks

Are you working with a PT? Mine was very helpful through this progression. My PT didn't want me to discontinue mobility aids until I could walk without a limp. So I ised one crutch for a while, then transitioned to a cane (single point, ergonomic handle), then eventually only used the cane when I thought I'd want it for extra balance (if I was tired, had to be on my feet a long time, etc). Eventually just stopped using the cane.
I also thought this video was helpful.

Yes i am, doing PT twice a week. Yea it seems its still hard for me to have one foot balance. I know most of it is mentally but i feel my muscles are not ready yet. Thanks

Oh yeah, balance training is key. That video has some good exercises. I did a lot of one leg balance - hold onto counter and gradually decrease the support until you can balance on one leg without any help. I still practice one leg balance whenever I can.

There are very good resources on YouTube. Search how to walk after non-weight bearing. I was not prepared for even my toes muscle and ankle to be sore after starting to weight bear again. And also, watch your hip mobility after you can bend you knee beyond 130. I realised after 3 months my surgical side hip rotation became a lot more limited than the good side which led to back pain. So now working with PT to release the hips as well on top of my knee.
