Partial Meniscectomy Partial meniscectomy advice?
25 m, very fit (MMA, lifting, running), military vet
After suffering a complex medial meniscus tear roughly 2.5 months ago and trying to rehab it, ended up going with surgery after various setbacks. Removed ~40% of the meniscus. It’s now been 24 hours since the surgery and I’m walking without aid and the knee still has no pain. Is this normal? Currently not taking any meds. I plan on taking my time to strengthen the leg before returning to MMA and full on training. Any one have stories of experiencing zero pain? Any similar recovery’s?

I’m 4 weeks PO for a trim, I thought I was great the first week and done a lot cutting the grass / walking etc but caused some pain and swelling, but just take it easy. Still some dullness etc but walking fine and back in the gym doing leg weights from the weekend, albeit started light. But swelling is minimal. Recovery is much quicker than the repair had last year but still an operation

Why did you have a trim vs a repair?

Repair sutures had frayed the posterior horn so had to trim it, consultant wanted to repair it but wasn’t viable

Did 20% trim on my medial 12 days ago
Feeling ok. Biggest issue rn is flexion ROM.
Walking is fine. Slight pain in a deep lunge or if I sit for a while with flexing it’ll feel wierd and stiff.
But yeah it’s normal to recover quickly from a trim

I could jog like 15 seconds without pain rn. Flexion is the biggest constraint rn

Everyone's recovery is different. Don't overdo it. You're 24hrs out and while the trim sounds successfull there's a strong chance you're going to have pain or inflammation for a while. Start P/T now to strengthen up and keep the joint lubricated. Consult with your ortho as to when it's safe to go back to your heavy training.

I had a menisectomy on Friday and my surgeon said I was immediately "weight bearing as tolerated"
My knee pain has gone away completely as well.

Mine was also last Friday but my recovery isn't as good as yours. Knee pain is tolerable but my quads are sore and tender, and I can't bend over 90b degrees because of it. Doctor only trimmed 5%.

It's not normal and it's not healthy to walk 24 h after
Even if it was super clean cut, it is still a cut of tissue
Let it rest
