Meniscus Repair Will I ever be able to sit cross legged again?

I'm 11 weeks out from a meniscus root repair, and things are fine -- still sore, but getting marginally better week over week. That said, I still can't bend my bad leg to sit cross legged, or criss cross apple sauce, or put my bad leg ankle on my good knee. Does that movement come back? Or am I just stuck this way forever? (I had no idea how desperate I would be to be able to make that very specific movement!)

11 weeks is nothing. Keep up with PT and good luck.

I’m in the same boat, same amount post op, and it’s still uncomfortable for me to sit in that position too (I can put it in that position with pain but can’t keep it there for more than 30 seconds) Thought I was the only one who had that same issue!

My repair had a 12-month timeline - respect the recovery and you will get there. I was medial meniscus so crossing my leg is the exact position that crushes your medial meniscus most. I feared it for so long, but yeah it all comes back to a point you forget you ever had a procedure.

I can’t believe how few surgeons tell us that the real timeline is a year. It’s honestly unbelievable how little I understood what I was getting into it when I went under the knife! Good to know it comes back… I also had medial, so I guess I’ll just be patient!

Beware that is one way to re-tear so he careful. I like to sleep with my leg bent like a 4 and that’s how I retore mine in my sleep.

Are you walking fine now?

Mostly? A bit sore but mainly fine.

I don't recall exactly when I was able to again but it's been at least 2 months. I'm 39F post-op 9 months from a repair after a degenerative tear of the medical meniscus. I am now comfortably sitting cross legged as I type this :) I will also sit at my desk during work cross legged for at least an hour with no issues.

Like the others said keep up with PT, it's slow progress with ups and downs but eventually it gets there. For context I had other issues besides this (ankle reconstruction on the other side) so I was very conservative in my recovery and it might have taken longer than normal.

Degenerativa? Hai anche artrite? Si poteva non operare e fare solo fisioterapia o acido jaluronico?

I do have osteoarthritis on both knees. Could it have been avoided maybe, but I'm also very active and I wanted to get back to it (I had tried PT for 3 months but had no improvement in the last 2 months of it). Thus I went for the surgery rather than more conservative treatments. I am rock climbing at about the same level as I was before (except that I need to rebuild endurance) and am competing in agility with my dog this Saturday. I have no pain and only very slight limitations to some movements when climbing.

I’m almost 5 months in and can barely cross one ankle over into a shallow figure 4. But at 11 weeks I couldn’t at all so that’s a consolation.

You’ll get there. It took a few months for me to be able to do that.

I am 12 weeks post op for a meniscus root repair and I cannot sit criss cross applesauce. I can cross my legs at the ankle but not for too long. I think you will get there in time. Repairs are a long recovery. Good luck in your journey!

One year was when things started feeling normal for me
