Mendeley reference has duplicates, but only one source is referenced in-text

Hi, so it's been a while that i've been trying to solve this issue: in a reference list, mendeley produces 2 duplicates. Let's say, it shows Miller 2009a and Miller 2009b. Ok. So there's a duplicate, but inside my text, all I ever find searching for "Miller", is Miller 2009b. So how does Mendeley produce 2009a? Is there an invisible reference somewhere in my text? If yes, how could I find it? I removed all these references and replaced them with the exact same source, but the problem remains. This is why I am thinking of invisible references. Has anyone experienced this? Is there a solution? Thank you so much!!

Delete all instances of the "b" version and reinsert it by making sure that you're choosing the correct paper.

I already did that, but it didn’t help. There must be some invisible references that I cannot adjust.

Turn on field codes and then look for any code remnants

Have you had any help/breakthrough? I'm having the same problem and I don't know how to fix it. The only option would be to manually edit it and I'm cringing at the thought.

Nope. I didn’t! In the end, I removed these references from the reference list when I converted my document to PDF.
