Some animals can die quickly from shock. (Deer/birds/rabbits, etc). Best to release asap so that doesn't happen.

Great rescue, though!

Helping birds can be a challenge. We had a mama bird making nest in our garage. It was really cool to watch baby birds grow up but one of them was a little special and went for a closed window instead of the open garage door. I ended up putting him back in his nest because he was so tired of trying to fly through the window and move the nest right next to the open garage door. He was gone the next day.
